  1. 21. Thermally driven wind modification in coastal areas and its influence on sound propagation with application to wind power

    Author : Karin Törnblom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wind power; sound propagation; thermally driven; coastal areas; temperature gradient; low level jet; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : The objective of the current study is to investigate the wind modifications in coastal areas and also to see the impact of atmospheric conditions on long-range sound propagation over sea. This is important when planning where to place wind turbines. READ MORE

  2. 22. Aerosol deposition to coastal forests: a wind tunnel approach

    Author : Ausra Reinap; Bo L.B. Wiman; Birgitta Svenningsson; Bo Bergbäck; Lise Lotte Sørensen; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NaCl aerosol; dry deposition; climate change; coastal-zone forest; Quercus robur; wind tunnel; edge effect; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Abstract : Aerodynamically rough surfaces of forests provide for efficient air/ canopy exchange of mass, heat and momentum. In that context, the effects of forest edges come into focus, and therefore, coastal-zone forests constitute aparticular concern. READ MORE

  3. 23. The Baltic Sea Wave Field : Impacts on the Sediment and Biogeochemistry

    Author : Anette Jönsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydraulic engineering; HYPAS; Wave modelling; Significant wave height; Wave energy; Vattenteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : The wave field in the Baltic Sea has been modelled for a two-year period with the spectral wave model HYPAS. There is a large seasonal variation in the field and a minor annual one, both reflect the wind variation in the area. Since the Baltic Sea is fetch limited, the dominant wind direction is important for the maximum wave heights. READ MORE

  4. 24. Model Studies of Surface Waves and Sediment Resuspension in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Anette Jönsson; Lars Rahm; Åsa Danielsson; Tarmo Soomere; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface waves; Wave model; Wave friction velocity; Resuspension; Sediment dynamics; Nitrogen fixation; Baltic Sea; Havsvågor; Östersjön; Oceanografi; Sediment; Oceanography; Oceanografi;

    Abstract : Wave heights and periods of surface waves in the Baltic Sea have been modelled for a two-year period (1999-2000) with the wave model Hypas on an 11x11-km grid scale. There is a clear seasonal variation with higher waves during winter and lower during summer. READ MORE

  5. 25. Sea Surface Current Measurements Using Along-Track Interferometric SAR

    Author : Anis Elyouncha; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Synthetic aperture radar; Ocean remote sensing; SAR; Along-track InSAR; Sea surface currents;

    Abstract : Ocean currents affect the weather, the climate and the marine ecosystem. Observing ocean currents is important for understanding the upper-ocean layer dynamics and its interaction with the other components of the climate system. In-situ measurements are sparse and their deployment and maintenance is costly. READ MORE
