  1. 1. Use of Macro Basalt Fibre Concrete for Marine Applications

    Author : Ali Mohammadi Mohaghegh; Johan L. Silfwerbrand; Vemund Årskog; Anniken T.Karlsen; Björn Täljsten; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Concrete Barges; Reinforcement Corrosion; Floating Structures; Macro Basalt Fibres; Self-Compacting Fiber Concrete; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Deterioration of concrete structures due to the corrosion of embedded steel is a well-known universal problem. Norway with its numerous bridges, ports, offshore and floating structures along its coastline, is also encountered with corrosion degradation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Relationships between Atmospheric Circulation and Wind Erosion in Southern Sweden and Australia

    Author : Marie Ekström; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Physical geography; geomorphology; Geologi; fysisk geografi; physical geography; Geology; sea level pressure; atmospheric circulation; erosivity; wind erosion; wind climatology; Scania; Australia;

    Abstract : Wind erosion is a serious threat to soil resources as it causes depletion of the fine fractions that may result in a less fertile soil. Wind erosion encompasses several processes of which many are related to climate variables. To date, there is little work performed on how wind erosion relates to climate and climate change. 3. 3. Power System Operation Planning and Wind Power Curtailment : Efficient Methods for Power System Scheduling and Integration Studies of Variable Renewable Energy

    Author : Elis Nycander; Lennart Söder; Mehrdad Ghandari; Robert Eriksson; Germán Morales-España; Benjamin Hobbs; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Variable renewable energy; wind power integration; production cost model; power-based unit commitment; wind power scenarios; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : To reduce carbon dioxide emissions, variable renewable energy (VRE) sources are replacing conventional fossil-based power plants for electricity generation. Due to the variability and uncertainty of weather dependent VRE sources, there can be situations when it is not possible to accommodate all the available VRE production, and VRE sources have to be curtailed. 4. 4. Adaptive flexibility in migratory behaviour of shorebirds

    Author : Johanna Grönroos; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bird migration; compensation; departure decision; flight distance; migration speed; migration strategy; orientation; shorebird; stopover; wind drift; wind selectivity;

    Abstract : The phenomenon of bird migration has long fascinated us humans and it has prompted questions like where do they go or come from and how do they find their way? Arctic shorebirds are well known for their spectacular long-distance migrations with some species travelling more than 10 000 km every spring and autumn, and some even cover this distance in one single nonstop flight. The aim of my thesis was to investigate the flexibility of Arctic shorebirds when it comes to orientation behaviour, departure behaviour and migration strategy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dynamic Thermal Rating for Improved Utilization of Wind Farm Export Systems : A Methodology for Improving Load Profile Estimation of Wind Farm Export Transformers

    Author : Zhongtian Li; Patrik Hilber; Tor Laneryd; Stefan Ivanell; Nguyen Nga; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; dynamic thermal rating; wake effect; turbine availability; transformer lifetime; transformer aging; dynamisk termisk klassificering; väckningseffekt; turbintillgänglighet; transformatorlivslängd; transformatoråldring; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The power system components connected to renewable energy sources, such as transformers, are often oversized and conservatively loaded. The design of transformers normally ignores the intermittent nature of the connected renewable energy sources (e.g. solar, wind). READ MORE
