  1. 1. Efficient Winter Road Maintenance : A Study of Technical and Contractual Issues

    Author : Adel Abdi; Hans Lind; Björn Birgisson; Lars Silver; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; climate; road climate and weather; road surface roughness; road friction; winter tyre; winter maintenance tools; RWIS; weather station; winter maintenance; contract type; road maintenance contract; winter maintenance contract; partnering; strategic alliance; public procurement; tender; incentives; bundling services; payment mechanism; remuneration models; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : Since ancient times, roads have tied people and cultures together. Roads have been createdwith the aim of facilitating trade and cultural exchange among different regions in the world. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tyre-road Interaction: a holistic approach to noise and rolling resistance

    Author : Tiago Vieira; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Ulf Sandberg; Anders Genell; Hans Jonasson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pavement; surface; texture; noise; rolling resistance; tyre; Vägbeläggning; vägyta; textur; buller; rullmotstånd; däck; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Energy dissipation, fuel consumption, real-estate property prices and health issues are some of the aspects related to the tyre/pavement interaction and its functional properties of rolling resistance and noise. The first two aspects are affected by the tyre/road interaction as energy is dissipated mostly by hysteretic losses as the tyre is subjected to dynamic deformations when contacting the pavement surface. Abstract : Luftburna partiklar (PM) är ett problem för människans hälsa, där flertalet samband mellan negativa hälsoeffekter finns mellan luftföroreningar finns, bland annat för respiratoriska sjukdomar, lungcancer och kardiovaskulära sjukdomar med flera. I länder där dubbdäck används, till exempel Sverige, Finland och Norge, och sandning av vägar och gator genomförs vintertid för att säkerställa god friktion kommer en betydande andel av partiklarna från vägslitage och nedkrossning av sand vilket bidrar till PM10. 4. 4. Road construction materials as a source of pollutants

    Author : Åsa Lindgren; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Traffic Engineering; Trafikteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals mainly with road construction materials, particularly in cases where they may contribute polluting substances. The complexity of the measuring and evaluation of some pollutants with respect to sampling and chemical analysis is considered. READ MORE

  5. 5. Accumulation and Composition of Gully Pot Sediments under Varying Anthropogenic Activities

    Author : Haoyu Wei; Lian Lundy; Maria Viklander; David Butler; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Catch basin; Stormwater; Sediment; Urban runoff; Xenobiotics; Gully pot maintenance; Emerging pollutant; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Abstract : Gully pots (GPs) are an integral urban drainage component, contributing to conveying runoff from urban surfaces and reducing the load of solids and associated contaminants entering downstream piped systems and receiving waters. Over time, the silting-up of GPs impairs their hydraulic performance, increasing the risk of GP blockage-induced flood events and reducing solids retention performance. READ MORE
