  1. 1. Anatomy, drying behaviour and mechanical properties of lesser used wood species from Mozambique

    Author : Ernesto Uetimane Junior; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The study provides an overview of Mozambique timber sector, descriptive and comparative wood anatomy, drying experiments and interrelationships between mechanics, density and anatomical features of lesser used species from Mozambique. Exhaustive literature review described the timber sector as dominated by few hardwood species selectively harvested from a forest containing 118 potential wood species. READ MORE

  2. 2. Juvenile birch in Sweden : Selected stem characteristics for interior and furniture applications

    Author : Josefin A. Nilsson; Åsa Blom; Jimmy Johansson; Nylinder Mats; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Betula pendula; Betula pubescens; wood density; birch bark; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : In response to the furniture industry’s growing demand for raw material, large volumes of juvenile silver birch and downy birch stems available from pre-commercial thinning operations in Sweden’s forests could offer solutions. However, such stems are not currently used on an industrial scale, and most research conducted on birch stems in general has neither focussed on young trees nor the potential use of the central stem part around the tree pith. 4. 4. Mechanical and physical properties of semi-isostatically densified wood

    Author : Jonas Blomberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood Technology; Träteknik;

    Abstract : When wood is densified through semi-isostatical compression in a Quintus- press at pressures up to 140 MPa, the material properties change. The cells are flattened, size is decreased and shape is changed, as a consequence of this the density is increased. Most properties of native woods are strongly correlated to the density. READ MORE
