  1. 1. Wood Plastic Composites made from Modified Wood : Aspects on Moisture Sorption, Micromorphology and Durability

    Author : Kristoffer Segerholm; Ove Söderström; Magnus Wålinder; Mats Westin; Pia Larsson Brelid; Per Johan Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wood plastic composites; WPC; acetylation; heat treatment; furfurylation; moisture sorption; micromorphology; decay; UV laser; soil test; Biomaterials; Biomaterial;

    Abstract : Wood plastic composite (WPC) materials have seen a continuous market growth worldwide in the last decade. So-called extruded WPC profiles are today mainly used in outdoor applications, e.g. decking, railing and fencing. READ MORE

  2. 2. Characteristics of wood plastic composites based on modified wood : Moisture properties, biological performance and micromorphology

    Author : Kristoffer Segerholm; Magnus Wålinder; Mark Hughes; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood plastic composites; WPC; acetylation; thermal modification; furfurylation; moisture sorption; biological durability; UV excimer laser; micromorphology;

    Abstract : Biobased materials made from renewable resources, such as wood, play an important role in the sustainable development of society. One main challenge of biobased building materials is their inherent moisture sensitivity, a major cause for fungal decay, mold growth and dimensional instability, resulting in decreased service life as well as costly maintenance. Abstract : The purpose of this study on hand injury from powered wood splitters was to describe injury epidemiology and anatomy, to rate injury severity, to evaluate the outcome after injury and to describe factors of possible importance for the occurrence of injury.By searching a computerized patient registry, 131 patients injured by wood splitters from 1995 to 2001 were identified. 5. 5. Compression mechanisms and strength properties of semi- isostatically densified wood

    Author : Jonas Blomberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träteknik; Wood Technology; Densified wood;

    Abstract : Since most strength properties increase with increased wood density, densifying wood through compression will increase strength and wear resistance. After densification, wood with originally low density can substitute denser wood and originally dense wood can be used for purposes where wood is considered too soft, e.g. READ MORE
