  1. 1. Wood Fingerprints : Recognition of Sawn Wood Products

    Author : Tobias Pahlberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träproduktutveckling; Wood Products Engineering;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with wood fingerprints and presents ways to track sawn wood products through an industrial process using cameras. The possibility to identify individual wood products comes from the biological variation of the trees, where the genetic code, environment and breakdown process creates a unique appearance for every board. Abstract : Through 270 million years of evolution, the finely tuned hierarchical structure of wood has been optimized for efficient nutrient transport and exceptional mechanical stability. Its distinctive orthotropic constitution can provide inspiration and design opportunities for the development of novel functional materials. READ MORE

  4. 4. Numerical Analysis of Moisture-Related Distortion in Sawn Timber

    Author : Sigurdur Ormarsson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Computer simulations; Deformation; Wood; Moisture; Drying; Finite element method; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; finite element method; simulation; moisture; wood; deformation;

    Abstract : A 3D theory for the numerical simulation of deformations and stresses in wood during moisture variation is described. The constitutive model employed assumes the total strain rate to be the sum of the elastic strain rate, the moisture-induced strain rate, the mechano-sorption strain rate and the creep strain rate. 5. 5. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour

    Author : Sara Florisson; Sigurdur Ormarsson; Johan Vessby; Kent Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []

    Abstract : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate.
