  1. 6. The Problem of Objects in Design of Health Care Information Systems

    Author : Hans Kyhlbäck; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; object; object-orientation; wound care; digital photos; activity theory; computer science; information system;

    Abstract : This thesis is about two different theoretical interpretations of objects and object-orientation in design of health care information systems – the interpretations of Activity Theory/Developmental Work Research and Computer Science respectively. One motive to my interest in objects of work and software, is to better understand the problems and possibilities in an inter¬dis¬ciplinary research project. READ MORE

  2. 7. Accelerated wound healing by on-site production and delivery of CXCL12

    Author : Emelie Öhnstedt; Mia Phillipson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : wound healing; non-healing wounds; L. reuteri; macrophages; wound assessment; Fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : Non-healing wounds is a growing medical problem, often associated with pathological conditions such as diabetes and peripheral ischemia. A non-healing wound entails a large amount of suffering for the patient, and demands extensive health care resources. READ MORE

  3. 8. Wound Infection Following Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery : Risk Factors and the Experiences of Patients

    Author : Christine Leo Swenne; Marianne Carlsson; Christina Lindholm; Jan Borowiec; Annika Ekbom Schnell; Hans Rutberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Caring sciences; coronary artery bypass graft; surgical wound infection; infection control; risk factor; blood glucose; postoperative; Saphenous vein harvesting; wound evaluation scale; mediastinitis; psychology; quality of life; Vårdvetenskap;

    Abstract : The primary aim was to register the incidence of surgical wound infections (SWI) in sternotomy and leg incisions and potential risk factors for SWI following coronary artery by-pass graft (CAGB) procedures. Patients’ perspectives of SWI and the subsequent treatment were also considered. Risk factors were registered for 374 patients. READ MORE

  4. 9. Tissue Perfusion and Oxygenation Evaluated by Measurements of Tissue Gases and pH. An Experiemental Study

    Author : Åke Mellström; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; Anaesthesiology; Tissue pH; Tissue PCO2; Oxygen utilization; Tissue PO2;

    Abstract : Optimum peripheral perfusion, oxygenation and oxygen utilization is a prerequisite for normal wound healing, resistance to infection and cardiac function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate peripheral oxygen utilization by measurements of subcutaneous tissue gases and pH (PscO2, PscCO2 and pHsc) in comparison to established techniques for measurements of periph-eral tissue oxygenation and oxygen utilization in experimental animal models with hyperoxia-hypoxia, acidosis-alkalosis and haemorrhage-resuscitation. 5. 10. Antibacterial materials for wound care applications utilizing antimicrobial peptides

    Author : Edvin Blomstrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-assembly; lyotropic liquid crystals; antibacterial surface; Antimicrobial peptides; Pluronic F-127; hydrogels;

    Abstract : The spread of antibiotic resistance among bacteria has shown that the development of alternative treatments of infections is of vital importance. This thesis has looked at one potential candidate, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), as an alternative or compliment to traditional antibiotics. READ MORE
