1. X-ray and neutron μCT of biomedical samples: from image acquisition to quantification
Abstract : Even though the validity of x-ray computed tomography in the analysis of biomedical samples is nowadays undisputed, the more recent imaging techniques and more advanced instruments (such as synchrotrons) are still relatively unknown to many medical doctors that could benefit from them. The doctoral work presented in this thesis joins a collective effort from the imaging community to demonstrate potential applications of advanced x-ray and neutron imaging methods to preclinical medical research, with the hope of contributing to reach a “critical mass” in the medical community and in the public opinion as well. 2. Hands-on osteoporosis screening with digital x-ray radiogrammetry
Abstract : According to epidemiological studies about one third of women and one fifth of men over 50 years will experience a fragility fracture. These fractures account for substantial mortality, morbidity and health care cost. Osteoporosis is a silent disease and thus often goes undiagnosed for a long time. READ MORE

3. Long-term health hazards from diagnostic X-ray exposure
Abstract : Medical imaging is an important function in the diagnosis and management of disease and its use have been increasing with technological advancements. A large part of medical imaging uses ionizing radiation as medium for imaging although it does pose potential risks to the patient. READ MORE

4. Degenerative changes of the human temporomandibular joint : A radiological, microscopical, histomorphometrical and biochemical study
Abstract : In five autopsy specimen studies human temporomandibular joints were investigated by conventional tomography, macroscopy, and microscopy for degenerative changes, in particular erosive hard-tissue changes. In the microscopical evaluation special attention was paid to the calcified cartilage.
