  1. 1. X-ray Phase Contrast Tomography : Setup and Scintillator Development

    Author : Hanna Dierks; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-rays; x-ray imaging; x-ray microscopy; X-ray detectors; perovskites; laboratory setups; phase contrast; μCT; scintillator; Phase contrast PC ; Tomography x-ray computed ;

    Abstract : X-ray microscopy and micro-tomography (μCT) are valuable non-destructive examination methods in many disciplines such as bio-medical research, archaeometry, material science and paleontology. Besides being implemented at synchrotrons radiation sources, laboratory setups using an X-ray tube and high-resolution scintillation detector routinely provide information on the micrometre scale. 2. 2. Laboratory X-Ray Phase-Contrast Imaging : Methods and Comparisons

    Author : Tunhe Zhou; Anna Burvall; Hans M. Hertz; Tim Salditt; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray imaging; Phase-contrast; Liquid-metal-jet source; Propagation-based imaging; Grating-based imaging; Speckle-based imaging; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : X-ray phase-contrast imaging has seen rapid development in recent decades due to its superior performance in imaging low-absorption objects, compared to traditional attenuation x-ray imaging. Having higher demand on coherence, x-ray phase-contrast imaging is performed mostly at synchrotrons. READ MORE

  3. 3. Liquid-Jet-Target Microfocus X-Ray Sources : Electron Guns, Optics and Phase-Contrast Imaging

    Author : Tomi Tuohimaa; Hans M. Hertz; Stephen Wilkins; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electron-impact; x-ray; brightness; liquid-jet-target; phase-contrast imaging; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : This Thesis describes the development of an electron-impact microfocus x-ray source and its application for phase-contrast imaging. The source is based on a novel, liquid-jet target concept. Stable and continuous operation can be achieved at substantially higher electron-beam power densities than conventional solid target based systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. High-resolution biomedical phase-contrast tomography

    Author : William Twengström; Hans Hertz; Anna Burvall; Marco Stampanoni; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; x-ray; x-ray imaging; biomedical; phase contrast; tomography; zebrafish; coronary artery; virtual histology; ring artifacts; phase retrieval; mummy; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Improved three-dimensional biomedical imaging can give a better understanding of tissue structure, growth and diseases. Most present imaging techniques that provide cellular spatial resolution are based on visible or infrared light. These methods cannot image deeper than a millimeter into tissue. READ MORE

  5. 5. Phase-Contrast and High-Resolution Optics for X-Ray Microscopy

    Author : Olof von Hofsten; Ulrich Vogt; Ian McNulty; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microscopy; X-ray optics; X-ray microscopy; Soft X-ray physics; Optics; Optik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : X-ray microscopy is a well-established technique for nanoscale imaging. Zone plates are used as microscope objectives and provide high resolution, approaching 10 nm, currently limited by fabrication issues. This Thesis presents zone plate optics that achieve either high resolution or phase contrast in x-ray microscopy. READ MORE
