  1. 1. Exposure to xenobiotic chemicals disrupts metabolism, rhythmicity and cell proliferation in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Hao Cao; Helgi B. Schiöth; Michael J. Williams; Jan Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; xenobiotics; metabolism; insulin signalling; circadian rhythm; carcinogen; Biomedical Laboratory Science; Biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap;

    Abstract : Most species are constantly exposed to xenobiotic chemicals through multiple routes. Among all categories of xenobiotics, phthalates and bisphenols are two of the most widely used plasticizers and can be found in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials, medical devices and even drinking water. 2. 2. Characterization of xenobiotic metabolism in the feral teleost northern pike (Esox lucius)

    Author : Lennart Balk; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A basic characterization of xenobiotic metabolism in the feral teleost Northern pike has been performed. The different aspects of concern have been:a) investigation of the uptake and distribution to different body compartments of the carcinogen and environmental pollutant benzo(a)pyrene using whole-body autoradiography and scintillation counting. 3. 3. Studies on nuclear receptors involved in drug metabolism

    Author : Göran Bertilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The molecular basis for drug metabolism is starting to emerge as a result of cloning and characterization of a group of nuclear receptors that respond to drugs by transcriptional regulation of key genes encoding enzymes involved in metabolism of commonly used drugs. This thesis describes the identification and functional, as well as the structural, characterization of one of these receptors, the human pregnenolone activated receptor (hPAR, NR1I2) that also has been referred to as the pregnane X receptor (PXR) or the steroid and xenobiotic receptor (SXR) by others. 4. 4. Genetic polymorphism of xenobiotic metabolising enzymes : implications for interindividual and interethnic differences in drug metabolism and cancer susceptibility

    Author : Irene Persson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Lung cancer; drug metabolism; genetic polymorphism; cytochrome P450; CYPIAI; CYP2EI; CYP2D6; interethnic differences.;

    Abstract : Genetic factors are of importance for interindividual and interethnic differences in drug response and cancer susceptibility. In the present investigation the role of genetic polymorphism in the cytochromes P450 CYPIAI, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP2EI as well as in glutathione S-transferase Ml (GSTMI) and microsomal epoxide hydrolase (mEH) for differences in drug response and cancer susceptibility has been investigated in various ethnic populations. 5. 5. Xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes and enzymes involved in the metabolism of reactive oxygen species in the porcine ovary : subcellular distributions and levels of expression during follicular maturation and in the non-pregnant and pregnant corpus luteum

    Author : Maria Eliasson; Thomas Friedberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) is metabolized by both porcine ovarian microsomes and mitochondria, with the highest activity being seen in the corpus luteum. Microsomal DMBA monooxygenase activity is inhibited by inhibitors of the CYP450 system and by 17-bestradiol, thus indicating involvement of CYP1B1. READ MORE
