  1. 1. Production and investigation of highly thermophilic multi-domain carbohydrate-active enzymes

    Author : Daniel Krska; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein structure; xylanase; carbohydrate esterase; multidomain enzymes; carbohydrate-active enzymes; thermostable enzymes; plant biomass degradation; Caldicellulosiruptor;

    Abstract : With the looming threat of climate change caused largely by an excess of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, recent scientific efforts have focused on the substitution of fossil fuels and other polluting compounds with more environmentally conscious choices. To this end, the investigation of biomass as both a renewable source of energy and as a chemical basis to produce high-value products is being extensively investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Trametes versicolor as biodegrader and biocatalyst when using lignocellulose for ethanol production

    Author : Marie Holmgren; Anita Sellstedt; Mohammad Taherzadeh; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lignocellulose; 5-carbon; 6-carbon; Trametes versicolor; xylose reductase; xylitol dehydrogenase; xylulokinase; phenolics; levulinic acid; HMF; furfural; biodegrader; biocatalyst; pretreatment; xylanase; beta-glucosidase;

    Abstract : Energy consumption has increased rapidly during the last century due to population growth and greater industrialization. Lignocellulosic-based biofuels are being developed as alternatives to fossil fuels. For many years the question of how 5-carbon sugars in biomass are utilized in nature has been a vexed one. 3. 3. Glycoside hydrolases from Rhodothermus marinus Modular organisation and structure-function relationships

    Author : Maher Abou-Hachem; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; calcium-binding; modular; endoglucanase; thermostable; CBM; xylanase; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The thermophilic bacterium Rhodothermus marinus produces several thermostable glycoside hydrolases. The studies presented in this thesis were performed on two enzymes, belonging to glycoside hydrolase families 10 and 12, produced by this microorganism. The family 10 xylanase, Xyn10A, is modular in architecture consisting of five domains or modules. READ MORE

  4. 4. Xylan degradation by the thermophilic bacterium Rhodothermus marinus. Characterization and function of a thermostable xylanase

    Author : Eva Nordberg Karlsson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fed-batch cultivation; kraft pulp; bleaching; glycosyl hydrolase family 10; recombinant xylanase; polysaccharide binding domain; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : A gene encoding a multidomain xylanase from the thermophilic bacterium Rhodothermus marinus has been cloned, sequenced and produced in Escherichia coli . The gene product was found to be a 109 kDa protein consisting of five domains. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quinoa Stalks Glucuronoarabinoxylan : Biorefinery,xylooligosaccharides production and potential applications

    Author : Daniel Salas Veizaga; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Quinoa stalks; Glucuronoarabinoxylan; Xylooligosaccharides; Xylanases; Probiotics;

    Abstract : Quinoa stalks were used as a source of hemicellulose for XOs production and further as prebiotic source for probiotic bacteria. Three methods for extraction of hemicellulose were used, of which alkaline extraction (NaOH [0.5 M]) was the optimum method. READ MORE
