  1. 1. Biofuels from Kraft Black Liquor : Pilot-Scale Gasification Development and Techno-Economic Evaluation of Industrially Relevant Biofuel Production Pathways

    Author : Yawer Jafri; Erik Furusjö; Ilkka Hannula; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biofuels; black liquor; pyrolysis oil; gasification; drop-in; energy systems; techno-economic; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Fuel combustion for transport was responsible for 24% of EU-28 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2016. Member states are expected to ensure that the share of renewable energy in the transport sector is at least 14% by 2030. Some countries, such as Sweden, have more ambitious targets. READ MORE

  2. 2. Entrained-Flow Gasification of Black Liquor and Pyrolysis Oil : Experimental and Equilibrium Modelling Studies of Catalytic Co-gasification

    Author : Yawer Jafri; Rikard Gebart; Martin Seemann; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Black liquor; pyrolysis oil; catalytic gasification; co-gasification; gasification; entrained-flow gasification; pilot-scale; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : The last couple of decades have seen entrained-flow gasification of black liquor (BL) undergo an incremental process of technical development as an alternative to combustion in a recovery boiler. The ability of the technology to combine chemical recovery with the production of clean syngas renders it a promising candidate for the transformation of chemical pulp mills into integrated forest biorefineries. 3. 3. Evaluation of emerging forest-industry integrated biorefineries : Exploring strategies for robust performance in face of future uncertainties

    Author : Jonas Zetterholm; Elisabeth Wetterlund; Joakim Lundgren; Johanna Mossberg; Yawer Jafri; Damiana Chinese; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biorefinery; Biomass; Forest industry; Biofuels; Investment; Gasification; Fast pyrolysis; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Biorefineries have been promoted to reduce dependency on fossil resources, increase self-sufficiency, and revitalise rural areas. Commercial deployment of forest-based biorefineries has been slow, although academic research has identified several technology options as promising in terms of both costs and resource usage.
