  1. 11. RAP1 at the Yeast Telomere

    Author : Johan Wahlin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytogenetik; DNA-binding; Saccharomyces; yeast; telomeric repeat; telomere; RAP1; repressor activator protein 1; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik;

    Abstract : Telomeres are specialized complexes of DNA and proteins that cap and confer stability to the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes. The telomeric DNA of most eukaryotes is composed of tandemly arranged short repeats. Within the budding yeasts these repeats are diverged in length as well as in nucleotide composition. READ MORE

  2. 12. Instability of the human minisatellite MS1 in yeast and man

    Author : Ingrid Berg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; llite repeats; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Alleles; Recombinant proteins;

  3. 13. Metabolic regulation and anticancer drug resistance in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Mattias Carlsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cancer is a malignant neoplastic tissue. The pyrimidine analogue 5-fluorouracil is an anticancer drug used against several types of cancer. It owes its specificity against neoplasms due to the higher rate of nutrient uptake, RNA and DNA synthesis, and in particular the higher rate of nucleobase scavenging and salvage of neoplastic cells. 4. 14. Spontaneous and induced mutations at the human minisatellite MS32 in yeast

    Author : Henrik Appelgren; Yuri Dubrova; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; toxikologisk genetik; Genetic Toxicology;

    Abstract : Tandem repetitive DNA including minisatellites make up a large part of eukaryotic genomes, and some tandem repetitive loci are associated with human disease. Little is known about the functions and dynamics of these sequences. Hypervariable minisatellites are used as naturally occurring genetic markers and form the basis of DNA fingerprinting. READ MORE

  5. 15. Development of molecular biology tools for the wine and beer yeast Dekkera bruxellensis

    Author : Anna Schifferdecker; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; non-conventional yeasts; Dekkera bruxellensis; genetic tools; chromosomes variability; glucose fermentation; genotype-phenotype paradigm; baking yeasts;

    Abstract : The non-conventional wine and beer yeast Dekkera bruxellensis is of great interest for the food industry and academic research. This Crabtree-positive yeast is a good ethanol producer and can compete the baker´s yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, in ethanol and pH tolerance and could be an even better organism for the biofuel production from alternative carbon sources.
