  1. 21. Ethanol production from lignocellulose using high local cell density yeast cultures. Investigations of flocculating and encapsulated Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Johan Westman; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; yeast; encapsulation; lignocellulose; ethanol; fermentation; flocculation; inhibitors; tolerance; xylose; co-utilisation; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning; Resource Recovery;

    Abstract : Efforts are made to change from 1st to 2nd generation bioethanol production, using lignocellulosics as raw materials rather than using raw materials that alternatively can be used as food sources. An issue with lignocellulosics is that a harsh pretreatment step is required in the process of converting them into fermentable sugars. READ MORE

  3. 23. Systems Biology of Yeast Lipid Metabolism

    Author : Pramote Chumnanpuen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transcriptome; Integrated analysis; Lipidome.; Inositol-choline; Opi1; Yeast lipid metabolism; high throughput techniques; Ino4; TORC1; Snf1; Ino2;

    Abstract : Lipid metabolism plays an important role in the development of many different life-style related diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis, and understanding the molecular mechanisms behind regulation of lipid biosynthesis and degradation may lead to development of new therapies. In this project we undertook a global study of lipid metabolism in the eukaryotic model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae. READ MORE

  4. 24. Constraint-based modeling of yeast metabolism and protein secretion

    Author : Feiran Li; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein secretion; metabolism; yeast evolution; genome-scale metabolic model; phenotype diversity;

    Abstract : Yeasts are extensively exploited as cell factories for producing alcoholic beverages, biofuels, bio-pharmaceutical proteins, and other value-added chemicals. To improve the performance of yeast cell factories, it is necessary to understand their metabolism. READ MORE

  5. 25. Saccharomyces castellii: A new model organism for telomere research

    Author : Eimantas Astromskas; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Naumovia castellii; Saccharomyces castellii; yeast; genetic tools; gene targeting; telomere; CDC13.; telomeric overhang;

    Abstract : Telomeres are natural ends of eukaryotic chromosomes and perform a major role in cell biology. They protect chromosomes from degradation, fusions and the end replication problem. To study telomeres different model organisms are used including a number of yeast species. READ MORE
