  1. 1. Yolk sac morphology and uterine blood flow are associated with fetal outcome in diabetes pregnancy

    Author : Sheller Zabihi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Diabetes; yolk sac; embryo; gene expression; blood flow; folic acid; SOD; apoptosis;

    Abstract : Women with pregestational diabetes have a 3-5 times increased risk of giving birth to malformed babies compared with non-diabetic women. The malformations are likely to be induced before the seventh week of pregnancy, when the yolk sac is partly responsible for the transfer of metabolites to the embryo, and the uterine blood flow to the implantation site determines the net amount of nutrients available to the conceptus. 3. 3. Fetal Outcome in Experimental Diabetic Pregnancy

    Author : Sheller Zabihi; Ulf Eriksson; Michael Welsh; Elisabeth (Lisa) Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; Rat; Mouse; TG; KO; Diabetes in Pregnancy; Embryo; Folic acid; Superoxide dismutase; Catalase; Glutathione peroxidase; Vascular endothelial growth factor-A; Folate binding protein-1; Bax; Bcl-2; Caspase-3; P53; Pax-3; Blood flow; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Women with pregestational diabetes have a 2-5 fold increased risk of giving birth to malformed babies compared with non-diabetic women. Diabetes-induced oxidative stress in maternal and embryonic tissues has been implicated in the teratogenic process. READ MORE

  4. 4. Role of embryonic mitochondria in the generation of congenital malformations in diabetic pregnancy

    Author : Xiaolin Yang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; embryo; diabetic pregnancy; congenital malformation; mitochondria; high-amplitudemitochondrial swelling; oxygen uptake; glucose utilization; Crabtree effect; superoxide generation; antioxidant; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Diabetic pregnancy is associated with an increased incidence of congenital malformations. The teratologicalmechanism may be related to an alteration of embryonic organogenesis by maternal metabolic derangementsduring early gestation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biochemical studies of thiamine deficiency in Baltic salmon (Salmo salar)

    Author : Gun Åkerman; Lennart Balk; Björn Brunström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental toxicology; Miljötoxikologi; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis is about the development of a method to inject various substances into the yolk of fish eggs. The method was named nanoinjection and enabled the injection of volumes as small as 10-9 L into the yolk of single fish eggs directly after fertilization, with insignificant mortality due to the injection.
