  1. 1. My first-passage : target search in physics and biology

    Author : Markus Nyberg; Ludvig Lizana; Martin Rosvall; Carlos Mejia-Monasterio; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; first-passage; mean first-passage time; mean first-arrival time; random walk; diffusion; zero-crossing; persistence; survival probability; network; resetting; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : Random walks and diffusing particles have been a corner stone in modelling the random motion of a varying quantity with applications spanning over many research fields. And in most of the applications one can ask a question related to when something happened for the first time. That is, a first-passage problem. READ MORE

  2. 2. Features and Origin of Electromagnetic Fields Generated by Lightning Flashes

    Author : Mohd Muzafar Ismail; Vernon Cooray; Farhad Rachidi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : negative cloud-to-ground lightning flashes; HF and VHF radiation; chaotic pulse trains; lightning initiation; zero-crossing time; electromagnetic fields; Engineering Science with specialization in Atmospheric Discharges; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot atmosfäriska urladdningar;

    Abstract : Negative cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning flashes transport negative charge from cloud to ground. Negative ground flashes typically involve various processes identified as preliminary breakdown, stepped leader, return stroke, dart leader, dart-stepped leader, subsequent return stroke, and cloud activity between strokes, such as regular pulse trains and chaotic pulse trains. 4. 4. Coulomb Blockade Thermometry and Other Aspects of Tunnel Junction Arrays

    Author : Tobias Bergsten; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This report describes experimental results on a few different aspects of two-dimensional tunnel junction arrays: Coulomb blockade thermometry (CBT), Hall effect and Josephson array magnetometry (JAM). CBT is a primary thermometry method which is only a few years old. It is suitable for cryogenic temperatures between 20 mK and 30 K. READ MORE

  5. 5. On Waveform Distortion in Modern Low-Voltage Installations with Multiple Nonlinear Devices

    Author : Tatiano Busatto; Math Bollen; Xiongfei Wang; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; power quality; power system harmonics; power electronics; nonlinear systems; Electric Power Engineering; Elkraftteknik;

    Abstract : The continuing society quest for more comfort combined with the need to minimize global environmental impacts is constantly introducing new technologies into our daily lives. Among the recent developments, the advances in energy-efficient lighting and renewable energy technologies have enabled a maturity level in cleaner electricity production and efficient use of energy.
