  1. 1. Properties of Fe/ZnSe Heterostructures : A Step Towards Semiconductor Spintronics

    Author : Fredrik Gustavsson; Poul Erik Lindelof; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; semiconductor spintronics Fe ZnSe heterostructures spin injection interface magnetism magnetic tunnel junctions; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the properties at ferromagnet/semiconductor interfaces, relevant for semiconductor spintronics applications, are addressed. Semiconductor spintronics refers to the possibility of storing information using the electron spin, additional to the electron charge, for enhanced flexibility in nanoscale semiconductor devices. 2. 2. Development of Nanoparticle Sensitized Solar Cells

    Author : Chunze Yuan; Hans Ågren; Anders Hagfeldt; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum dots; quantum rods; nanoparticles; solar cells; colloidal; type-II; electron extraction; alloy; organic electrolyte; energy relay; upconversion.;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I have been working with the development of nanoparticle sensitized solar cells. In the subarea of quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSCs), I have investigated type-II quantum dots (QDs), quantum rods (QRs) and alloy QDs, and developed novel redox couples as electrolytes. 3. 3. The Study of II-VI Semiconductor Nanocrystals Sensitized Solar Cells

    Author : Chunze Yuan; Ying Fu; Lars Kloo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum dots; quantum rods; nanocrytals; solar cells; colloidal; type-II; electron injection; organic electrolyte.;

    Abstract : Semiconductor nanocrystals, also referred to as quantum dots (QDs), have been the focus of great scientific and technological efforts in solar cells, as a result of their advantages of low-cost, photostability, high molar extinction coefficients and size-dependent optical properties. Due to the multi-electron generation effect, the theoretically maximum efficiency of quantum dots-sensitized solar cells (QDSCs) is as high as 44%, which is much higher than that of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). 4. 4. Functional materials studies by Mössbauer spectroscopy

    Author : Erik Nordström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Mössbauer spectroscopy has been used as a powerful tool to investigate the local properties of some materials suitable as active ingredients in technological applications. The magnetic properties of some magnetic multilayers were investigated using conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interactions between iron oxides and silicates

    Author : Xiaofang Yang; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry of Interfaces; Gränsytors kemi;

    Abstract : The main objective of this Licentiate thesis was to acquire a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in the sorption of dissolved silicate from aqueous solutions onto iron oxide surfaces by using Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy and subsequently to develop a method to monitor the orientation of bentonite platelets settling onto the bare iron oxide using polarized ATR-FTIR technique. The infrared spectra show that the silicate concentration and pH both determine the species of sorbed silicate on the iron oxide surfaces. READ MORE
