16. On fracture of layered materials
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with fracture in layered bimaterials. Fracture of coatings is considered to some extent. The behaviour of cracks growing normal to bimaterial interfaces is studied with the objective to clarify conditions for crack-tip shielding and amplification. READ MORE

17. Methods for evaluation of early bone healing at titanium implants
Abstract : Titanium has for a long time been the implant material of choice when in need for abilities as strength, biocompatibility and stability. Although numbers of studies have been made, little is known about the early events in implant healing. The primary aim in this thesis was to develop methods for evaluating bone healing around implants. READ MORE

18. Modelling and simulation of short fatigue cracks
Abstract : The growth of short fatigue cracks deviates from the behaviour of long fatigue cracks even if subjected to the same nominal driving force. The influence from the microstructure is pronounced, while crack closure effects may not be that important as for longer cracks. READ MORE

19. A novel implantable ultra-flexible brain machine interface. Manufacturing and initial characterisations
Abstract : This thesis describes for the very first time the development of a miniaturized neural interface which is flexible in three dimensions (3D) to enable it to follow the brain movements with minimal dislocation. Both the design rationale and the material choice for the electrodes aim to develop interfaces that minimize the damage and/or the irritation of the tissue during and after the implantation. 20. Fatigue and Corrosion Fatigue Fracture of a Plasma Nitrided, Laser Hardened, and Galvanized B-Mn Steel
Abstract : Fundamental and technological aspects of fatigue and fracture of conventional and advanced material are topics of primary importance to the development of materials science and engineering. Surface treatments have been established to improve the surface properties of material against surface phenomenon such as wear, corrosion, fatigue and corrosion fatigue. READ MORE
