  1. 16. Clades in the "higher land bird assemblage"

    Author : Ulf. S. Johansson; Scott V. Eswards; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Birds; Fåglar; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Abstract : This thesis summarizes the results of several phylogenetic studies of birds included in the “higher land bird assemblage” (Anomalogonatae sensu Beddard 1898). The phylogenetic analyses are primarily based on gene sequences obtained from the nuclear genome (exons of the c-myc and RAG-1 genes and an intron of the myoglobin gene). READ MORE

  2. 17. Animal movement on short and long time scales and the effect on genetic diversity in cold-adapted species

    Author : Vendela Kempe Lagerholm; Love Dalén; Anders Angerbjörn; Bensch Staffan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Abstract : The genetic diversity in modern species is strongly affected by contemporary gene flow between populations, which in turn is governed by individual dispersal capacities and barriers in the landscape. However, current patterns of variation have also been shaped by movement over longer time-scales, such as the successive shifts in species distributions that have occurred during past climate changes. 3. 18. A phylogenetic analysis of rasborin fishes (Teleostei, Cyprinidae)

    Author : Te-Yu Liao; Sven Kullander; Paul Skelton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Rasbora; Chedrina; Danionina; Danionini; Rasborini; Danioninae; Opsariichthyinae; Cyprinidae; Cypriniformes; phylogeny; systematics; Africa; Asia; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Abstract : The Danioninae (sensu lato) were until recently considered to be a paraphyletic group, comprising about 200 species and distributed over Africa and southern and eastern Asia. There was no morphological diagnosis for the Danioninae, and also the composition of the subfamily, and the interrelationships of included genera have been contentious. READ MORE

  4. 19. Investigating the impacts of Late Pleistocene climate change on Arctic mammals using palaeogenomics

    Author : Edana Lord; Love Dalén; Mirte Bosse; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeogenomics; Arctic; Late Pleistocene; past climate; collared lemming; woolly rhinoceros; Norwegian lemming; muskox; demography; population structure; speciation; adaptation; genome erosion; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Abstract : The climatic fluctuations of the Late Pleistocene likely had a large impact on the evolutionary history of Arctic species. Palaeogenomics is a useful tool to shed light on how past populations responded to these climatic shifts and the associated ice sheet dynamics and sea level change. READ MORE

  5. 20. Biodiversity patterns and the processes regulating them along elevation gradients in the Swedish mountains

    Author : Johannes Måsviken; Love Dalén; Anne Bjorkman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biodiversity; elevation gradients; spiders; insects; plants; latitude; altitude; alpha diversity; beta diversity; taxonomic diversity; phylogenetic diversity; functional diversity; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Abstract : Biodiversity describes the total variation of life and includes the taxonomic, genetic, and phenotypic differences among organisms. Variations of biodiversity in space and time may be driven by ecological, evolutionary, or neutral processes. READ MORE
