Capacity Management with Logical Links

Abstract: To be able to guarantee a certain level of service quality, for different services, one can reserve capacity for these along selected paths through the network. By doing this, one can better control the traffic streams so that the total capacity in the network is used well and so that the services receives the needed quality for the customers. The routing is also simplified in the switches since the path already has been choosen by the use of logical links, which identifies the paths. Different approaches to reallocate capacity between the different trafficstreams has been evaluated and compared with each other. The basic idea is to allocate capacity when it is needed.
