Micellar electrokinetic chromatography with laser-induced fluorescence detection applied to the analysis of biological samples

University dissertation from Stockholm : Stockholm University

Abstract: The research presented in this thesis is focused on the potential for using the combination of micellar electrokinetic chromatography with laser-induced fluorescence detection for the determination of compounds in biological samples. The topics that have been addressed are the development of separation electrolytes, the need for sample preparation procedures, the derivatization of the compounds of interest and the detection of these by laser-induced fluorescence. Two different classes of compounds have been studied. The greater part of the research concerns the enantiomeric determination of amino acids. A lesser portion of the thesis focuses on the determination of the lipid peroxidation products malondialdehyde and 4-hydroxynon-2-enal.
