  1. 1. Healthy bridges : Studies of social capital, welfare, and health

    Author : Mikael Rostila; Johan Fritzell; Ichiro Kawachi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Sweden; social capital; welfare state; health; migrant; Sociology; Sociologi; Sociology; sociologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to study whether social capital is related to health and health inequality, and to investigate the significance of welfare state features for levels of social capital. Another aim is to examine whether social capital may be important for the relation between the welfare state and health. READ MORE

  2. 2. Design of steel piles for integral abutment bridges

    Author : Hans Petursson; Ian May; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; integral abutment bridges; steel piles; jointless bridges; Steel Structures; Stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : In 1999 research was started at Luleå University of Technology with the purpose to collect experiences from USA and UK on bridges with integral abutments and transfer the experience to Swedish conditions. Since then at least 20 integral bridges with one row of piles under each abutment have been built in Sweden and the European research project INTAB has been completed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Assessment of Concrete Bridges : Models and Tests for Refined Capacity Estimates

    Author : Niklas Bagge; Anders Carolin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Optimising the strategy for repairing, upgrading and replacing bridges in the European Union, and elsewhere, is becoming increasingly important due to ageing of the bridge stock, continuously increasing load requirements and budgetary limitations. Thus, there is a clear need to identify or develop, and implement, refined methods for assessing existing bridges in order to determine the most cost-effective options and actions to extend their lives, increase their capacities or replace them. 4. 4. Vibration mitigation of high-speed railway bridges : Application of damping devices in theory and practice

    Author : Sarah Tell; Raid Karoumi; Andreas Andersson; Ülker-Kaustell Mahir; José Maria Goicolea; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vibration mitigation; high-speed railway bridges; damping devices; retrofit; numerical analysis; hybrid simulation; field experiment; vibrationsdämpning; järnvägsbroar för höghastighetståg; dämpare; eftermonteringsmetod; numerisk analys; hybridsimulering; fältförsök; Structural Engineering and Bridges; Bro- och stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : The dynamic response of railway bridges is an important aspect to consider, as the repetitive loading from passing trains may result in excessive vibrations of the bridge deck. Several design criteria are developed in order to assure the structural safety and passenger comfort during train crossings of a bridge. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structural assessment procedures for existing concrete bridges : Experiences from failure tests of the Kiruna Bridge

    Author : Niklas Bagge; Björn Täljsten; Paulo Cruz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Anchorage; carbon fibre reinforced polymers; concrete; existing bridges; finite element analysis; flexure; full-scale test; load-carrying capacity; residual prestress force; punching; safety verification; shear; structural assessment; structural behaviour; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Assessing existing bridges is an important task in the sustainable management ofinfrastructure. In practice, structural bridge assessments are usually conducted usingtraditional and standardised methods, despite knowledge that these methods oftenprovide conservative estimates. READ MORE
