  1. 21. Biological Laboratory X-Ray Microscopy

    Author : Mikael Kördel; Hans Hertz; Ulrich Vogt; Jonas A. Sellberg; Rajmund Mokso; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-ray microscopy; laboratory x-ray microscopy; water window; biological; cell imaging; virus; Biological and Biomedical Physics; Biologisk och biomedicinsk fysik; Optik och fotonik; Optics and Photonics;

    Abstract : Soft x-ray microscopy in the water window (? ≈ 2.3 − 4.3 nm) is a powerful technique for high-resolution biological imaging. The strong natural contrast between carbon-based structures and water allows visualization of hydrated and unstained samples, while providing enough transmission through up to ∼ 10 μm of organic matter.     Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; telemedicine; motor test; tapping; spiral; self-assessment; home-assessment; outcome measure; electronic diary; patient-reported outcome; remote patient monitoring; levodopa; infusion; pharmacokinetic; pharmacodynamic; Medical informatics; Medicinsk informatik; Medical Informatics; Medicinsk informatik; E-MOTIONS; Beslutsstöd för Parkinsonbehandling;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to develop, deploy and evaluate new IT-based methods for supporting treatment and assessment of treatment of advanced Parkinson’s disease. In this condition a number of different motor and non-motor symptoms occur in episodes of varying frequency, duration and severity. READ MORE

  3. 23. Gut microbiota in colorectal cancer : The importance of Parvimonas micra

    Author : Thyra Löwenmark; Richard Palmqvist; Sofia Edin; Pär Larsson; Michael Dahlberg; Per Hellström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; mucosal microbiota; Parvimonas micra; Fusobacterium nucleatum; immunity; survival; biomedical laboratory science; biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap;

    Abstract : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a heterogenous disease consisting of multiple molecular subtypes, each of which has diverse treatment responses and prognoses. The importance of the gut microbiota in CRC development and progression has undergone increasing recognition in recent years, with a structural segregation in terms of microbial composition between CRC patients and healthy controls.     Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : Lyme borreliosis (LB), the most common tick-borne disease in Europe and North America, is caused by spirochetes of the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato complex. The spirochetes can invade several different organs, thereby causing many different symptoms and signs. READ MORE

  5. 25. Diffusion of Radionuclides in Bentonite Clay : Laboratory and in sity Studies

    Author : Mats Jansson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bentonite; montmorillonite; cation; anion; diffusion; sorption; cobalt; caesium; strontium; iodide; pertechnetate; surface diffusion; in situ; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the diffusion of ions in compactedbentonite clay. Laboratory experiments were performed toexamine in detail different processes that affect thediffusion. To demonstrate that the results obtained from thelaboratory investigations are valid under in situ conditions,two different kinds of in situ experiments were performed. READ MORE
