1. Competition in Public Transport : Essays on competitive tendering and open-access competition in Sweden
Abstract : The results of this work show that the cost efficiency of tendered bus services is similar across all Swedish counties, except for the more high-density counties where efficiency is lower. Considerably lower efficiency is also found for contracts with services run in-house by the Public Transport Authority (PTA), compared to when the same service is run by a private actor. READ MORE

2. Challenges with Driverless and Unattended Train Operations
Abstract : Demand for transportation continues to increase, for both freight and passenger services. One of the most energy-efficient modes of transportation is rail. One solution to increase the attractiveness of rail transport is to introduce automatic train operation (ATO) with a high grade of automation (GoA). READ MORE

3. Simulation Studies for Improved Efficiency in Road and Rail Freight Transports
Abstract : The demand for road and rail freight transport continues to grow with the expanding economy, while the climate crisis requires reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, tools and solutions for reducing fossil fuel use and enabling more efficient use of infrastructure are needed. READ MORE

4. Railway capacity analysis : Methods for simulation and evaluation of timetables, delays and infrastructure
Abstract : In this thesis the symptoms and underlying behaviour of congestion on railways are analysed and discussed. As well as in many other countries, Sweden faces increasing demand for transportation. To meet this new demand, railways play an important role. READ MORE
