1. CFD MODELLING AND EXPERIMENTS ON AERATOR FLOW IN CHUTE SPILLWAYS
Abstract : A chute spillway is a typical component of large dams for discharging floods. Because of the high water head, the flow velocity in the chute is often in excess of 20 m/s. Consequently, the structure is usually prone to cavitation damages. Flow aeration is evidenced to efficiently eliminate or to mitigate the damages. READ MORE

2. Complex Cavity Analysis : Analytical Fluid-Power Models Using CAD Information
Abstract : This thesis covers different methods of topology search for making time-domain simulation models based on geometric information. The application is in the field of fluid-power. Automatic methods for extracting simulation models from CAD data are presented. READ MORE

3. Numerical and Experimental Investigations of Design Parameters Defining Gas Turbine Nozzle Guide Vane Endwall Heat Transfer
Abstract : The primary requirements for a modern industrial gas turbine consist of a continuous trend of an increasing efficiency combined with very low emissions in a robust, cost-effective manner. To fulfil these tasks a high turbine inlet temperature together with advanced dry low NOX combustion chambers are employed. READ MORE

4. Properties of small Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 intrinsic Josephson junctions: confinement, flux-flow and resonant phenomena
Abstract : In this thesis, intrinsic Josephson junctions, naturally formed in the strongly anisotropic high-temperature superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi-2212), are studied experimentally. For this purpose, small mesa structures are fabricated on the surface of single crystals using micro- and nano-fabrication tools, focused ion beam is used to reduce the area of the mesa-structures down to ≈ 1 × 1 μm2.
