  1. 1. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Patrik Svensson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; eGFR; creatinine; cystatin C; CKD-EPI; CKD; CVD; Genetics; Blood Pressure; Hypertension;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death. 2. 2. Factors predicting progression of chronic kidney disease in IgA nephropathy

    Author : Sigrid Lundberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Glomerulonephritis (GN) is the main cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients on renal replacement therapy, with IgA nephropathy (IgAN) being the most frequent single diagnosis. Patients with reduced kidney function and/or proteinuria have an increased risk of premature cardiovascular disease (CVD). READ MORE

  3. 3. Growth hormones in chronic kidney disease

    Author : Erik Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Several hormonal systems are disrupted in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and disturbances of the growth hormone axis could contribute to increased morbidity and mortality through effects on cardiovascular health, energy metabolism and inflammation. The overall aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge about hormonal alterations and their consequences in CKD, focusing on cardiovascular disease (CVD), mortality and the growth hormone axis in end-stage renal disease. 4. 4. Early cardiovascular risk markers and cardiac function in children with chronic kidney disease

    Author : Ylva Tranæus Lindblad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Children with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) have an increased risk of premature death, foremost due to cardiovascular disease (CVD). The cardiovascular (CV) morbidity starts early in the disease process and renal transplanted children (CKD-T) are also at risk. READ MORE

  5. 5. Vascular and inflammatory markers in chronic kidney disease

    Author : Bodil Sjöberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), inflammation and malnutrition are harmful and highly prevalent conditions with influence on the atherosclerotic process and outcome. The risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is substantially increased in CKD patients compared with healthy individuals. READ MORE
