1. Studies of genes involved in regulating flowering time in Arabidopsis
Abstract : Transition from a vegetative growth phase to flowering in plants occurs in response to both environmental conditions and endogenous signals. Identification of genes that are involved in regulating the time of flowering is of great importance in agri- and horticulture. READ MORE

2. Evolution of Flowering Time in the Tetraploid Capsella bursa-pastoris (Brassicaceae)
Abstract : Although polyploidy is believed to be a major source of evolutionary novelty, few studies have examined the genetic basis of phenotypic variation in wild polyploids. In this thesis I have studied the genetic basis of flowering time variation in the wild tetraploid crucifer Capsella bursa-pastoris, as well as the evolutionary history of this species. READ MORE

3. From QTLs to Genes: Flowering Time Variation and CONSTANS-LIKE Genes in the Black Mustard (Brassica nigra)
Abstract : The transition to flowering is a major developmental switch in angiosperms, the timing of which is expected to be important for fitness. In this thesis the focus has been on identification of genes affecting natural variation in flowering time in Brassica nigra. The background for this thesis is an earlier QTL-mapping study in B. nigra. READ MORE

4. Plant-Animal Interactions and Evolution of Floral Display and Flowering Phenology in Arabidopsis lyrata
Abstract : In this thesis, I combined comparative and experimental approaches to examine selection on reproductive traits, and population differentiation in the insect-pollinated, outcrossing, perennial herb Arabidopsis lyrata. More specifically, I (1) determined whether selection on flowering phenology and floral display can be attributed to interactions with pollinators and herbivores, (2) examined whether population differentiation in flowering phenology and floral display is correlated with current selection on these traits, and (3) tested for local adaptation from contrasting environments in Europe. 5. Life cycle and flowering time control in beet
Abstract : Flowering plants switch from vegetative growth to flowering at specific points in time. This biological process is triggered by the integration of endogenous stimuli and environmental cues such as changes in day length and temperature. READ MORE
