  1. 1. Lean Remanufacturing : Reducing Process Lead Time

    Author : Jelena Kurilova-Palisaitiene; Erik Sundin; Bozena Poksińska; Mats Björkman; Martin Kurdve; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Circular Economy; Lean Production; Toyota Production System; Value Stream Mapping; Remanufacturing Process Challenges and Improvements; Process Efficiency;

    Abstract : Remanufacturing is a product recovery option in which used products are brought back into useful life. While the remanufacturing industry stretches from heavy machinery to automotive parts, furniture, and IT sectors, it faces challenges. READ MORE

  2. 2. Pathways to deep decarbonisation of carbon-intensive industry in the European Union - Techno-economic assessments of key technologies and measures

    Author : Johan Rootzén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : By Year 2050, the EU has committed itself to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80%–95%relative to the levels in 1990, so as to contribute to global efforts to limit the long-term globalaverage temperature increase to.... READ MORE

  3. 3. Strategies for Reduced Energy Use and Cost in Pulp and Paper Mills by Energy Integration of the Paper Drying Process

    Author : Kristian Lindell; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Paper; Pappers- och massateknik; pulp and paper technology; Wood; Energiforskning; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Combined dryer; Energy research; Black liquor gasification; Heat recovery; Secondary energy; Co-generation; Costs; Energy; Drying;

    Abstract : The cost of energy for drying paper is substantial for the pulp and paper industry, and studies of various strategies for energy cost reductions such as increased energy efficiency, increased heat recovery from the exhaust drying air and reduced cost of the process heat are presented in this thesis. The energy use and cost studies were performed using a block-model based simulation tool developed for this specific purpose. READ MORE

  4. 4. Predator-prey interactions in freshwater systems: The importance of chemical communication

    Author : Kajsa Åbjörnsson; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine biology; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; Ecology; Ekologi; Hydrobiology; trophic cascades; non-lethal effects; benefits; costs; heredity; predator experience; alarmsubstances; dietary cues; amphibian larvae; invertebrates; visibility; fish; behaviour; Predator-prey; chemical cues;

    Abstract : Predator released chemical cues provide a valuable source of information to prey organisms that can be used to alter their behaviour in order to reduce predation risk. In this thesis, I have examined under what circumstances chemical cues may be used by prey, and if prey discriminate between different cues. READ MORE

  5. 5. Reducing Memory Traffic with Approximate Compression

    Author : Albin Eldstål-Ahrens; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Memory Compression; Memory Systems; Compression; Computer Architecture; Lossy Compression; Approximate Computing;

    Abstract : Memory bandwidth is a critical resource in modern systems and has an increasing demand. The large number of on-chip cores and specialized accelerators improves the potential processing throughput but also calls for higher data rates. In addition, new emerging data-intensive applications further increase memory traffic. READ MORE
