  1. 1. Localised Radial Basis Function Methods for Partial Differential Equations

    Author : Victor Shcherbakov; Elisabeth Larsson; Grady B. Wright; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radial basis function; Partition of unity; Computational finance; Option pricing; Credit default swap; Glaciology; Fluid dynamics; Non-Newtonian flow; Anisotropic RBF; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : Radial basis function methods exhibit several very attractive properties such as a high order convergence of the approximated solution and flexibility to the domain geometry. However the method in its classical formulation becomes impractical for problems with relatively large numbers of degrees of freedom due to the ill-conditioning and dense structure of coefficient matrix. 2. 2. Oversampled radial basis function methods for solving partial differential equations

    Author : Igor Tominec; Elisabeth Larsson; Bengt Fornberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; radial basis function; PDE; oversampling; stability; RBF-FD; RBF-PUM; unfitted;

    Abstract : Partial differential equations (PDEs) describe complex real-world phenomena such as weather dynamics,  object deformations, financial trading prices, and fluid-structure interaction.  The solutions of PDEs are commonly used to enhance the understanding of these phenomena and also as leverage to make technological improvements to consumer products. 3. 3. High Order Local Radial Basis Function Methods for Atmospheric Flow Simulations

    Author : Erik Lehto; Elisabeth Larsson; Natasha Flyer; Tobin Driscoll; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radial basis function; meshless method; high order finite difference; atmospheric flow; hyper-viscosity; stable algorithm; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Since the introduction of modern computers, numerical methods for atmospheric simulations have routinely been applied for weather prediction, and in the last fifty years, there has been a steady improvement in the accuracy of forecasts. Accurate numerical models of the atmosphere are also becoming more important as researchers rely on global climate simulations to assess and understand the impact of global warming. READ MORE

  4. 4. Radial Basis Function generated Finite Difference Methods for Pricing of Financial Derivatives

    Author : Slobodan Milovanović; Lina von Sydow; Bertram Düring; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radial basis function; Finite difference; Computational finance; Pricing of financial derivatives; Option pricing; Partial differential equation; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to present state of the art in radial basis function generated finite difference (RBF-FD) methods for pricing of financial derivatives. This work provides a detailed overview of RBF-FD properties and challenges that arise when the RBF-FD methods are used in financial applications. READ MORE

  5. 5. Acute Achilles tendon rupture - The impact of calf muscle performance on function and recovery

    Author : Annelie Brorsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Achilles tendon rupture; Rehabilitation; Heel-rise; Function; Recovery; Calf muscle; Ankle biomechanics; Endurance; Jump; Sex differences;

    Abstract : There is an ongoing debate about the optimal treatment for patients with an acute Achilles tendon rupture. The overall purpose of this thesis was to acquire a greater knowledge of the way patients recover at different time points after the injury when treated with the currently recommended treatment protocols.
