  1. 1. Dead-Ice Under Different Climate Conditions: Processes, Landforms, Sediments and Melt Rates in Iceland and Svalbard

    Author : Anders Schomacker; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; glacier; dead-ice; surge; ice-cored; Little Ice Age; fysisk geografi; Geologi; Geology; Svalbard; Iceland; Sedimentology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Sedimentologi; Physical geography; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; climatology;

    Abstract : Modern dead-ice environments in the glacier forefields of Brúarjökull, Iceland and Holmströmbreen, Svalbard were investigated with focus on landform and sediment genesis, as well as quantification of melting. Field monitoring and studies of multi-temporal aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) provided data for the melting quantification. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spatial Variation in Near-Ground Radiation and Low Temperature - Interactions with Forest Vegetation

    Author : Kristina Blennow; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; light interception; hemispherical photograph; growth; forest fragmentation; fluorescence; cold-induced photoinhibition; GIS; view factor; radiative cooling; frost protection; agro-climatic mapping; forest clear-cut; local climate; Microclimate; Physical geography; geomorphology; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi;

    Abstract : Low temperature has a large impact on the survival and distribution of plants. Interactive effects with high irradiance lead to cold-induced photoinhibition, which may impact on the establishment and growth of tree seedlings. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modelling, mapping and visualisation of flood inundation uncertainties

    Author : Nancy Joy Lim; Stefan Seipel; S. Anders Brandt; Eva A. U. Sahlin; Matthew Wilson; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cartography; flood; hydraulic modelling; GIS; map; uncertainty; visualisation; GIS; hydraulisk modellering; karta; kartografi; osäkerhet; visualisering; översvämning; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development;

    Abstract : Flood maps showing extents of predicted flooding for a given extreme event have wide usage in all types of spatial planning tasks, as well as serving as information material for the public. However, the production processes that these maps undergo (including the different data, methods, models and decisions from the persons generating them), which include both Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and hydraulic modelling, affect the map’s content, and will be reflected in the final map. 4. 4. Automatic generation of a view to geographical database

    Author : Mats Dunkars; KTH; []
    Keywords : Digital cartography; automatic cartographic generalization; object oriented modeling;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns object oriented modelling and automatic generalisation of geographic information. The focus however is not on traditional paper maps, but on screen maps that are automatically generated from a geographical database. READ MORE

    Author : Johan Dahlberg; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Adam Ameur; Michael C. Zody; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia ALL ; RNA-Sequencing; Bioinformatics; Pooling; Whole Genome Sequencing; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Abstract : Massively parallel sequencing (MPS) is revolutionizing genomics. In this work we use, refine, and develop new tools for the discipline.MPS has led to the discovery of multiple novel subtypes in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In Study I we screen for fusion genes in 134 pediatric ALL patients, including patients without an assigned subtype. READ MORE
