  1. 1. Molecular Beam Studies of Interactions Between Ice Surfaces and Atmospherically Relevant Molecules

    Author : Liza Romero Lejonthun; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molecular beam; surface; surface scattering; collision; water ice; ice; chlorine; nitrogen oxides; nitrogen monoxide; nitrogen dioxide; dinitrogen tetroxide; dinitrogen pentoxide; nitric acid; helium; graphite;

    Abstract : The discovery of the ozone hole over Antarctica in 1985 was one of the environmental issues that attracted most attention worldwide in the end of the last century. The cause of the ozone hole formation was proven to be coupled to the emission of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). READ MORE

  2. 2. Diurnal variation of stratospheric short-lived species

    Author : Maryam Khosravi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chlorine monoxide; short-lived species; Arctic ClO; diurnal variation; tropical middle stratosphere; Arctic stratosphere;

    Abstract : Diurnal variation of stratospheric short-lived speciesMaryam KhosraviChalmers University of TechnologyDepartment of Earth and Space SciencesAbstractThe depletion of ozone in the stratosphere has a direct impact on the amount of ultravioletradiation reaching the Earth’s surface. The ozone abundance and distributionis controlled by the photo-chemical reactions and catalytic cycles involving halogens(chlorine and bromine), odd hydrogen and odd nitrogen species as well as by atmospherictransport. 3. 3. Effects of Varying Combustion Conditions on PCDD/F Formation

    Author : Johanna Aurell; Stellan Marklund; Sukh Sidhu; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dioxin; formation; PCDD; PCDF; MSW incineration; transient combustion; sulfur; memory effects; quench time; chlorine; combustion; polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes; NO; water; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) are by-products emitted from combustion sources such as municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration plants. These organic compounds are recognized as toxic, bioaccumulative and persistent in the environment. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chemical Interactions between Potassium, Nitrogen, Sulfur and Carbon Monoxide in Suspension-Fired Systems

    Author : Thomas Allgurén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sulfation; combustion; CO-oxidation; modelling; oxy-fuel; NO-formation; experiments; alkali;

    Abstract : Drastic cuts in global CO2 emissions are needed to mitigate global warming and limit the average temperature increase to well below 2ºC. The power generation sector is largely based on fossil fuels and generates a significant share of the global CO2 emissions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development and Assessment of Regeneration Methods for Commercial Automotive Three-Way Catalysts

    Author : Henrik Birgersson; Magali Boutonnet; Jim A. Andersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; automotive catalyst; TWC; aging; sintering; Pd Rh; Pt Rh; regeneration; oxy-chlorination; dispersion; acid-leaching; mathematical modeling; reaction kinetics; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Car exhaust catalysts were introduced in the early 1980’s, to limit the release of pollutants such as hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. These catalysts contain noble metals such as palladium (Pd), platinum (Pt) and rhodium (Rh) and are able to simultaneously abate all three of the above-mentioned pollutants, hence the name three-way catalyst (TWC).
