1. Catanionic Surfactant Mixtures and Binary Systems of Modified Fatty Acid Surfactants. Phase Equilibria and Structure
Abstract : Surfactant self-assembly is an important phenomenon that occurs in a number of processes in our everyday life. It is important to understand the forces and parameters that control and influence the self-assembly, as this knowledge can be used both in order to design surfactant systems with desired properties and for creating model systems, for example for biological processes. 2. Enhanced Polarizing Neutron Optics with 11B4C Incorporation : SLD Tunability, Interface Refinement, and Elimination of Magnetic Coercivity
Abstract : This thesis explores novel strategies for improving Fe-based polarizing neutron optics, a critical part for improving neutron scattering methods to study materials science, physics, biology, medicine, chemistry and cultural heritage. Polarization analysis is important in uncovering data on magnetic domains, protein structures, molecular composition and orientation in biological systems, and ion-diffusion mechanisms that would otherwise be inaccessible. 3. The behaviour of mica-rich aggregates under the temperate climate conditions
Abstract : In regions of temperate climate the destructive influence of frost action such as frost heave in winter and thaw weakening in spring are the main contributors to severe deterioration of the pavement structure. A number of studies on construction aggregates and field observations of road failures, especially caused by seasonal fluctuations of temperature, have revealed a negative influence of unbound mica-rich rock aggregates on the service life of road construction. 4. Optical and Structural Characterization of Natural Nanostructures
Abstract : The spectacular biodiversity of our planet is the result of millions of years of evolution. Over this time animals and plants have evolved and adapted to different environments, developing specific behavioral and physical adaptations to increase their chances of survival. READ MORE
