1. Protein complexes : assembly, structure and function
Abstract : Most proteins must fold into their native conformations to fulfil their biological functions. Failure of proteins to fold leads to cell pathology and a broad range of human diseases referred to as protein misfolding disease, e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and type II diabetes. 2. Specific signaling through heteromeric PDGF receptor complexes
Abstract : Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a potent mitogen and chemoattractant for mesenchymal cells and exert its effect by binding to two structurally related receptor tyrosine kinases, denoted α- and β-receptors. PDGF binding induces dimerization of its receptors, both homo-and heterodimerization, leading to their autophosphorylation on tyrosine residues and binding of downstream signaling molecules. 3. Modern Icelandic Word Formation
Abstract : Icelandic is known for its conservative word formation, largely involving native sources. The main focus of the present research is to describe which mechanisms are used in forming words in Modern Icelandic. Furthermore, a postulated additional category within Icelandic complexes, introduced here under the label compilations, is examined. READ MORE

4. Specific Precipitation of Biomolecules Using Synthetic Polymers
Abstract : Purification is a very important stage in biotechnological processes. The traditionally used precipitation techniques are generally nonspecific and thus one or more chromatographic steps are normally required. There is thus a need for new approaches to improve existing techniques. READ MORE

5. Synthesis of Nanoparticles and Organometallic Complexes for Gas Sensing
Abstract : Currently metal nanoparticles (NPs) are a subject of interest regarding many applications, in particular chemical gas sensing, as the associated environmental issues are of substantial importance. Metal NPs are attractive due to their fascinating optical properties and primarily, localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) which strongly depends on size and shape of NPs. READ MORE
