1. The Influence of Water Vapour on the Oxidation Behaviour of High-temperature Materials Microstructure investigation using analytical electron microscopy
Abstract : This thesis covers the analytical electron microscopy work carried out on samples exposed to high-temperature oxidation in O2 atmospheres with the intention of investigating the effect of oxygen and water vapour. SEM/EDS, TEM/EDS and diffraction techniques, complemented by FIB precision milling, were employed to characterise the formed oxide scales as well as the material directly under the scale in order to understand the mechanisms that influence the corrosion process. 4. LES stochastic modelling of cavitation with its applications in OpenFOAM
Abstract : Cavitation is a vaporisation process that commonly happens in high pressure injectornozzles nowadays. It has been shown by previous studies that cavitationhas a significant influence on the subsequent atomization process, the qualityof which would in turn heavily affect the quality of combustion. 5. Numerical Modelling of Fuel Sprays
Abstract : The way the fuel is introduced into the combustion chamber is one of the most important parameters for the power output and the generation of emissions in the combustion of liquid fuels. The interaction beween the turbulent gas flow field and the liquid fuel droplets, the vaporisation of them and the mixing of the gaseous fuel with the ambient air that are vital parameters in the combustion process.
