1. Pharmacometrics Modelling in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus : Implications on Study Design and Diabetes Disease Progression
Abstract : Pharmacometric modelling is widely used in many aspects related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), for instance in the anti-diabetes drug development, and in quantifying the disease progression of T2DM.The aim of this thesis were to improve the design of early phase anti-diabetes drug development studies with the focus on the power to identify mechanism of drug action (MoA), and to characterize and quantify the progression from prediabetes to overt diabetes, both the natural progression and the progression with diet and exercise interventions, using pharmacometrics modelling. 2. Genetics of Diabetes Subtypes. Characterization of novel cluster-based diabetes subtypes
Abstract : BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has been reproducibly clustered into five subtypes based on six-clinical variables; age at diabetes onset, body mass index (BMI), Glutamic acid decarboxylase autoantibodies (GADA), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and insulin secretion and resistance estimated as HOMA2B and HOMA2IR derived from fasting glucose and Cpeptide. These subtypes have different disease progression and risk of complications. READ MORE

3. Diabetes Mellitus at the Time for Diagnosis : Studies on Prognostic Factors
Abstract : The aim for this thesis was to identify prognostic factors for chronic diabetes complications that exist at the time of diabetes diagnosis.Low level of education (... READ MORE

4. Epidemiological Aspects on Assessing and Treating Dyslipidemia in Type 1 Diabetes : Studies from the Swedish National Diabetes Register
Abstract : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of shortened longevity in individuals with type 1 diabetes. Dyslipidemia is one of the important modifiable risk factors. Aims: To investigate different aspects of dyslipidemia in type 1 diabetes. READ MORE

5. Diabetes complications, risk factors, and glycaemic indices in persons with type 1 diabetes
Abstract : Background: Persons with type 1 diabetes are at higher risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. An important risk factor for diabetes complications is hyperglycaemia. Hyperglycaemia has traditionally been measured using HbA1c, but glycaemic targets are also provided for continuous glucose monitoring. READ MORE
