  1. 1. Dissolving pulp : Multivariate Characterisation and Analysis of Reactivity and Spectroscopic Properties

    Author : Kristina Elg Christoffersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Dissolving pulp; reactivity; solid state 13C NMR spectroscopy; NIR spectroscopy; multivariate analysis; cellulose; viscose; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Various chemical properties can be used to characterise dissolving pulp. The quality of the pulp must be carefully controlled to ensure that it meets the requirements for its intended use and the further processes to be applied. READ MORE

  2. 2. Equilibrium of lignin precipitation: The effects of pH, temperature, ion strength and wood origins

    Author : Weizhen Zhu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; black liquor; 1H and 13C NMR spectra of lignin; carbohydrate analysis; molecular weight of lignin; LignoBoost process; lignin precipitation;

    Abstract : The kraft process is the predominant method for producing pulp in Scandinavia. However, the material efficiency in modern kraft pulp mills for pulp production is only 40−55% and the final product consists mainly of cellulose. A novel process called “LignoBoost” has been introduced recently for extracting lignin from alkaline black liquor. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synthesis and analysis of carbohydrates related to bacterial polysaccharides

    Author : Hani Mobarak; Göran Widmalm; Ulf Nilsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbohydrates; synthesis; conformation; NMR; O-antigen; computer-assisted structure elucidation; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The outer surface of bacteria is composed of around 75% carbohydrates, which are vital for the bacteria to survive and communicate with the host biological system. The thesis discusses different properties of carbohydrates that are essential for understanding the bacterial behavior in biological systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Precipitation of Kraft Lignin: Yield and Equilibrium

    Author : Weizhen Zhu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lignin precipitation; molecular weight of lignin; 1H and 13C NMR spectra of lignin; black liquor; Poisson-Boltzmann cell model; LignoBoost process;

    Abstract : Kraft pulping is the dominant pulping process used in the world today. The material efficiency in modern kraft pulp mills is, however, only 40−55% and the final product consists mainly of cellulose. Recently, a novel process called “LignoBoost” has been introduced to separate lignin from kraft black liquor. READ MORE

  5. 5. Chemistry of Combustion Products Investigation of Combustion Chamber Deposits Formed in a Gasoline Direct Injection Stratified Charge SI Engine

    Author : Farshid Owrang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gasoline fuels; SI engine; gasoline direct injection; stratified charge; combustion chamber deposits; engine oil; oxidation; in situ measurement; thermal desorption; GC MS; fast neutron activation analysis; spin-lattice relaxation constant; NMR;

    Abstract : The aim of this work was to characterize deposits formed in the combustion chambers of a gasoline direct injection stratified charge SI engine. The engine was run with several types of gasoline fuels and a special reference engine oil. READ MORE
