  1. 26. Methods for performance characterization of artificial molecular motors

    Author : Ivan Unksov; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis work is to characterize artificial biomolecular motors, specifically the Lawnmower, a motor based on the burn bridges mechanism, and the Tumbleweed, a protein motor that employs ligand specific DNA-proteins binding to step along DNA. An overview of their operational principles is given, and initial results of our studies are presented, along with a review of currently available methods to characterize artificial molecular motors. 2. 27. Artificial Water Splitting: Ruthenium Complexes for Water Oxidation

    Author : Lele Duan; Licheng Sun; Matthias Beller; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water oxidation; ruthenium; electrochemistry; DFT calculation; photoelectrochemistry; negatively charged ligand; catalyst;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the development and study of Ru-based water oxidation catalysts (WOCs) which are the essential components for solar energy conversion to fuels. The first chapter gives a general introduction about the field of homogenous water oxidation catalysis, including the catalytic mechanisms and the catalytic activities of some selected WOCs as well as the concerns of catalyst design. 3. 28. Quantum properties of light and matter in one dimension

    Author : Axel Gagge; Jonas Larson; Jack Lidmar; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis concerns topics in non-interacting and interacting quantum physics in one dimension. We present the notions of Wannier functions and tight-binding models. Quantum walks are discussed, quantum mechanical analogues to random walks. READ MORE

  4. 29. Structured Metallic Films for Enhanced Light Transmission and Absorption

    Author : Reyhaneh Soltanmoradi; Min Yan; Sanshui Xiao; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; Physics; Informations- och kommunikationsteknik; Information and Communication Technology;

    Abstract : Photonic devices such as light emitters, detectors, solar cells etc. are playing increasingly important roles in modern society. Yet their structures and designs are still under constant improvement, driven mostly by advances in material science and progress in integration techniques. READ MORE

  5. 30. Mechanisms of native and artificial spinning of spider silk

    Author : Marlene Andersson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Spider silk is tougher than all other known natural and man-made fibers, and represents an environmentally friendly material that could potentially be used for many different purposes, ranging from biomaterials to construction materials. However, for large-scale production of silk, methods to produce artificial silk fibers must be developed. READ MORE
