1. Mitral annulus motion in left ventricular pumping
Abstract : This thesis focus on the role of the mitral annulus motion (MAM) versus outer contour changes in the short axis, in left ventricular (LV) pumping. The influence of atrial contraction on LV dimensions and volumes and the relation between MAM and ejection fraction (EF) in sinus rhythm and in atrial fibrillation was also studied. READ MORE

2. The proton pumping inorganic pyrophosphatase from Rhodospirillum rubrum
Abstract : The aim of the present investigation was to study the mechanism by which light-energy is transformed to biologically useful chemical-energy in the form of inorganic pyrophosphate (PPi). The study was performed on chromatophores (subcellular membrane structures) from the photosynthetic nonsulphur bacterium Rhodospiri Hum rubrum. READ MORE

3. Turbocharged HCCI Engine, Improving Efficiency and Operating Range
Abstract : Increasing fuel prices and environmental concern drives the research and development for the internal combustion engine. Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) is a promising combustion concept with high fuel efficiency and low emissions. READ MORE

4. Seawater intrusion risks and controls for safe use of coastal groundwater under multiple change pressures
Abstract : In the era of intense pressures on water resources, the loss of groundwater by increased seawater intrusion (SWI), driven by climate, sea level and landscape changes, may be critical for many people living in commonly populous coastal regions. Analytical solutions have been derived here for interface flow in coastal aquifers, which allow for simple quantification of SWI under extended conditions from previously available such solutions and are suitable for first-order regional vulnerability assessment and mapping of the implications of climate- and landscape-driven change scenarios and related comparisons across various coastal world regions. 5. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy - Effects on Sternotomy Wounds and the Intrathoracic Organs
Abstract : Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been widely adopted for the treatment of deep sternal wound infections due to its excellent clinical outcome. However, the mechanisms of action and effects on hemodynamics have not been thoroughly elucidated. READ MORE
