  1. 1. Three-dimensional structured carbon foam : synthesis and applications

    Author : Ngoc Tung Pham; Jyri-Pekka Mikkola; Krisztian Kordas; William Siljebo; Dmitry Yu. Murzin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon foam; melamine foam; absorbent; water purification; heterogeneous catalyst; catalyst support; SpinChem®; rotating bed reactor; water electrolysis; energy conversion;

    Abstract : Recently, due to the unique properties and structures such as large geometric surface area, electrical conductivity and light weight, 3D structured carbon materials have been attracting extensive attention from scientists. Moreover, the materials, which can provide well-defined pathways for reactants to easily access active sites, are extremely useful for energy conversion as well as environmental and catalysis applications. 2. 2. Morphology Characterization of Foam Bitumen and Modeling for Low Temperature Asphalt Concrete

    Author : Biruk Hailesilassie; Manfred Partl; Kim Jenkins; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; foam characteristics; evolution of foam bitumen bubbles; image analysis; modeling rising of bubble; foam asphalt mixture; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science;

    Abstract : Development of new asphalt technologies to reduce both energy consumption and CO2 production has attracted great interest in recent years. The use of foam bitumen, as one of them, is attractive due to the low investment and production cost. READ MORE

  3. 3. Foam Core Materials for High Performance Sandwich Constructions: Preparation, Testing and Properties

    Author : Mikael Danielsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; IPN; core material; low temperature; polyurea; polyethersulfone; gradient structure; foam; PVC; sandwich; waste; fire; smoke; toxicity; mechanical properties; Inter Penetrating Polymer Network; dynamic properties; high temperature;

    Abstract : The basic task for foams used as core materials in sandwich constructions is to separate the skin layers in order to enhance stiffness with little contribution to the total weight. However, modern design in sandwich technology require that core materials contribute to the perfor-mance with specific mechanical and physical properties. READ MORE

  4. 4. Insulation materials in district heating pipes : Environmental and thermal performance of polyethylene terephthalate and polyurethane foam

    Author : Sara Mangs; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HFC-365mfc; insulation; District heating pipe; 3-pentafluorobutane; cyclopentane; 3; 1; mass transport; 1; 1; thermal performance; polyurethane foam; polyethylene terephthtalate foam;

    Abstract : District heating can contribute to increased energy efficiency in society. The environmental impact can be reduced by minimising the heat losses in the district heating pipes during distribution of the heat to the customers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Some Aspects of Foamed Bitumen Technology

    Author : May Namutebi; Björn Birgisson; Umaru Bagampadde; Jonas Ekblad; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Foamed bitumen; Aggregate coating; Rice density; Foam characteristics; Surface energy; Locking concept; Gyratory; Compaction; Optimum moisture content; Other civil engineering and architecture; Övrig samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : Although foamed bitumen has been widely applied in pavement construction some of its aspects are still not yet understood. In this study, some of these aspects including: effects of the foaming process on binder chemistry, characterization of foamed bitumen and development of a rational method to optimize foam characteristics, evaluation of aggregate particle coating within foamed bitumen treated materials, and development of a gyratory compaction procedure for laterite gravels treated with foamed bitumen were addressed.
