  1. 1. Indoor emissions and fate of flame retardants : A modelling approach

    Author : Ioannis Liagkouridis; Ian Cousins; Anna Palm Cousins; Thomas McKone; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; flame retardants; BFRs; OPFRs; indoor environment; emissions; fate; modelling; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : A significant number of consumer goods and building materials act as emission sources of flame retardants (FRs) in the indoor environment. As a result, FRs have become ubiquitous indoors raising concerns about human exposure and possible health implications. READ MORE

  2. 2. Environmental fate of chemicals released from consumer products : Multimedia modelling strategies

    Author : Anna Palm Cousins; Michael McLachlan; Antonio Di Guardo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multimedia fate model; urban model; PBDEs; phthalate esters; indoor environment; emissions; exposure; BDE 209; DINP; DEHP; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to assess the environmental fate and transport of chemicals emitted from consumer products through the development and application of modelling tools. The following hypotheses were tested: i) Multimedia fate models can be applied in a multistage assessment process to emerging chemicals when limited knowledge exists to identify the likely environmental fate and to direct further research; ii) the indoor environment acts as a source of anthropogenic substances in consumer products to the outdoor environment; and iii) chemical removal pathways in the indoor environment are important for the fate of organic chemicals in densely populated areas. 3. 3. Modelling Sexual Interactions : Sexual behaviour and the spread of sexually transmitted infections on dynamic networks

    Author : Disa Hansson; Tom Britton; Fredrik Liljeros; KaYin Leung; Janneke Heijne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical modelling; Sexually transmitted infections; Egocentric network analysis; Dynamic networks; Sexual behaviour; HIV; Statistical inference; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we develop statistical and mathematical models to study different factors of relevance for the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Two special interest groups for STI interventions are considered: sexually active youths and men who have sex with men (MSM). READ MORE

  4. 4. Assessing human exposure to phthalates, alternative plasticizers and organophosphate esters

    Author : Tuong Thuy Bui; Ian T. Cousins; Andrew Sweetman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human exposure; phthalates; organophosphates; plasticizers; flame retardants; modelling; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Phthalate esters (PEs) and organophosphate esters (OPEs) are common indoor pollutants frequently detected in environmental (dust, air), personal (hand wipes, diet) and human matrices (urine, serum etc.). READ MORE

  5. 5. Failure of thermal barrier coatings under thermal and mechanical fatigue loading : microstructural observations and modelling aspects

    Author : Håkan Brodin; Anette M. Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : thermal barrier coating; TBC; delamination; crack initiation; crack propagation; crack growth; oxidation; alumina; spinel; MCrAIY; diffusion; fatigue; modelling; modeling; degradation; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Industrial and air-borne gas turbine hot components suffer from creep, oxidation, corrosion and microstructural degradation if not shielded from the hot and aggressive combustion gases. Two major strategies commercially available are adopted; film cooling by pressurised air and application of protective coatings. READ MORE
