1. The "ity" factor in hospital meals : Performing, experiencing, and understanding hospitality within the hospital frame
Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore how the notion of hospitality could be used as a perspective to understand the meal provision within a hospital frame. Of interest was how patients (>65 years of age) experience their mealtimes together with perspectives from the ones serving the meals. READ MORE

2. Area Selective Chemical Vapor Deposition of Metallic Films using Plasma Electrons as Reducing Agents
Abstract : Metallic films are used to improve optical, chemical, mechanical, magnetic, and electrical properties and are therefore of high importance in many applications, from electronics and catalysis, environmental protection and health, to wearable and flexible electronic materials. Many of these applications, however, require that the metal films are deposited uniformly on topographically complex surfaces and structures. READ MORE

3. Performance Monitoring, Analysis, and Real-Time Introspection on Large-Scale Parallel Systems
Abstract : High-Performance Computing (HPC) has become an important scientific driver. A wide variety of research ranging for example from drug design to climate modelling is nowadays performed in HPC systems. Furthermore, the tremendous computer power of such HPC systems allows scientists to simulate problems that were unimaginable a few years ago. READ MORE

4. Speciation analysis of butyl- and phenyltin compounds in environmental samples by GC separation and atomic spectrometric detection
Abstract : The main goal of the work presented in this thesis is to improve the reliability of existing methods for speciation analysis of organotin compounds Species-specific isotope dilution (SSID) calibration in combination with gas chromatography – inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used to investigate the transformation of phenyltin species during sample preparation. Isotope-enriched phenyltin species were synthesized from corresponding isotope-enriched tin metals. READ MORE

5. Towards Scalable Performance Analysis of MPI Parallel Applications
Abstract : A considerably fraction of science discovery is nowadays relying on computer simulations. High Performance Computing (HPC) provides scientists with the means to simulate processes ranging from climate modeling to protein folding. READ MORE
