  1. 1. Partial CO2 capture to facilitate cost-efficient deployment of carbon capture and storage in process industries - Deliberations on process design, heat integration, and carbon allocation

    Author : Max Biermann; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbon allocation; Partial CO2 capture; process industry; techno-economic assessment; CCS; heat recovery; amine absorption;

    Abstract : Climate change requires that all energy-related sectors reduce drastically their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, at a global rate of 1–2 GtCO2 per year, starting now. Process industries, such as the iron and steel, cement, petrochemical, and oil-refining industries, are inherently carbon-intensive, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) is one of the few options available to achieve the required deep reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. 2. 2. Isolation and chemical modification of arabinoxylan and galactoglucomannan

    Author : Linda Härdelin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tg; Films; Material properties; Isolation; Etherification; Modification; PEGylation; Hemicellulose;

    Abstract : Today’s society is based on the use of fossil fuels, where oil is used as transportation fuel and as raw material in the petrochemical industry. Efforts are made to increase the use of bio-based materials, since oil is a non-renewable source and a greenhouse gas contributor. READ MORE

  3. 3. Catalytic Steam Pyrolysis of Biomass for Production of Liquid Feedstock

    Author : Efthymios Kantarelis; Weihong Yang; Tobias Richards; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pyrolysis; Catalytic Cracking; Catalytic Upgrading; Biomass to Liquids; Bio-fuels; Πυρόλυση; Καταλυτική διάσπαση; Καταλυτική αναβάθμιση; Biomass to Liquids; Βιοκαύσιμα; Pyrolys; Katalytisk Krackning; Katalytisk uppgradering; Biomass to Liquids; biobränslen; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : The current societal needs for fuels and chemical commodities strongly depend on fossil resources. This dependence can lead to economic instabilities, political problems and insecurity of supplies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molasses Purification and Valorisation : Towards a sustainable production of hydroxymethylfurfural

    Author : Mikael Sjölin; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sugar beet molasses; 5-hydroxymethylfurfural; membrane filtration; hydrolysis; dehydration; adsorption; purification; solvent regeneration;

    Abstract : The industrial transition from petrochemical-based to a more sustainable and circular economy requires the utilisation of renewable biobased raw materials that do not compete with other important industries, such as the food sector, preferably wastes or low value by-products. 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is a versatile platform chemical that has great potential for utilisation in various sectors in a future bioeconomy, as it can be produced from sugars. 5. 5. Zeolite Membrane Separation at Low Temperature

    Author : Pengcheng Ye; Anne Julbe; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical Technology; Kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : The energy consumption of separation processes accounts for a large part of the total energy consumption in chemical industry. Membrane separation processes require much less energy than the currently used thermally driven separation processes and could therefore reduce energy consumption in industry considerably. READ MORE
