  1. 1. Remembering in Alzheimer's disease utilization of cognitive support

    Author : Agneta Herlitz; Lars-Göran Nilsson; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Dementia; Memory; Episodic memory; Semantic memory; Severity of dementia; Alzheimers sjukdom; demens; minne;

    Abstract : The aim of the present doctoral thesis was to investigate the ability of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) to utilize cognitive support in order to improve episodic remembering. A review of previous research indicated that most studies have failed to find beneficial effects of encoding support on memory in AD patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aging Along the Hippocampal Axis Structure, Function and Whole-brain Connections in Association with Memory

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Kristin Nordin; Hedvig Söderlund; Agneta Herlitz; Jessica Damoiseaux; [2018]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; hippocampus; aging; longitudinal-axis; episodic memory; spatial memory; connectivity; fMRI; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Hippocampus-dependent functions display marked reductions in older age, an observation that has led to the extensive study of age effects on hippocampal properties. Even though research indicates that the hippocampus is structurally and functionally heterogeneous along its longitudinal axis, its anterior and posterior regions differentially supporting episodic and spatial memory representations, few studies explicitly consider age effects in relation to axis. 5. 5. Active Memory Processing on Multiple Time-scales in Simulated Cortical Networks with Hebbian Plasticity

    University dissertation from Stockholm, Sweden : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Florian Fiebig; Anders Lansner; Tim Vogels; [2018]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Working memory; Long-term memory; consolidation; spiking; neural network; BCPNN; cortical microcircuit; Tillämpad matematik och beräkningsmatematik; Applied and Computational Mathematics; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis examines declarative memory function, and its underlying neural activity and mechanisms in simulated cortical networks. The included simulation models utilize and synthesize proposed universal computational principles of the brain, such as the modularity of cortical circuit organization, attractor network theory, and Hebbian synaptic plasticity, along with selected biophysical detail from the involved brain areas to implement functional models of known cortical memory systems.
