  2. 2. Holocene climate change in high latitudes recorded by stable isotopes in peat

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Deptartment of meteorology, Stockholm University

    Author : Päivi Kaislahti Tillman; Steffen Holzkämper; Stefan Wastegård; Peter Kuhry; Mats Rundgren; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; -; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences Exogenous earth sciences Quaternary geology; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap Exogen geovetenskap Kvartärgeologi; Quarternary Geology; kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : A key to the understanding of natural and human induced climate variations is to reconstruct past changes from different environments. No outstanding method for general use has been pinpointed, instead, a need of multi-proxy studies is often stressed and the reconstructions are under constant improvement by new techniques. 3. 3. Performance of forage maize at high latitudes : plant development, agronomy and nutritive value

    University dissertation from ; Dept. of Agricultural Research for Northern Sweden, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

    Author : Zohaib Mussadiq; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Following the development of earlier maturing hybrids the cultivation of forage maize (Zea mays L.) in Northern Europe has markedly increased in recent decades. This has raised needs for greater knowledge regarding the performance of forage maize in marginal areas, such as Sweden, under current conditions. READ MORE

    Abstract : My thesis focuses on magnetic orientation in migratory birds, i.e. how they can perceive information from the Earth’s magnetic field and use it for orientation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Holocene climate and environmental change in high latitudes as recorded by stable isotopes in peat deposits

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology, Stockholm University

    Author : Päivi Kaislahti Tillman; Steffen Holzkämper; Stefan Wastegård; Peter Kuhry; Thomas W. D. Edwards; [2012]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stable isotopes; Holocene; subarctic; climate; Sphagnum fuscum; Quarternary Geology; kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, stable carbon and oxygen isotopes in α-cellulose isolated from Sphagnum fuscum moss remains were used as climate proxies. The main focus was to implement the methods in records from high latitude peatlands in the Northern Hemisphere (west-central Canada and north-eastern European Russia), reconstruct palaeoclimate of the studied regions during the Holocene, and evaluate the compatibility of results with other proxy records, especially tree-ring isotope time-series.
