1. Medication-related problems and psychotropic drug use in vulnerable older populations : a focus on acute hospital admissions and cognitive impairment
Abstract : The ageing process involves several physiological changes that affect both pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics and that, in combination with a heavier disease burden and more extensive use of medicines, put older people at higher risk of medication-related problems and associated clinical outcomes. The older population is often treated as a homogenous group, when in fact there are factors that render certain individuals more vulnerable to adverse drug effects and other types of medication-related problems. 2. Rural/urban redux: Conceptual problems and material effects
Abstract : Concepts are the basic building blocks of all knowledge, while the strength of the theories that guide any societal project is dependent on the quality those concepts. Contrarily, the utilization of questionable concepts will result in questionable material effects. READ MORE

3. Applied problems and computational methods in radiative transfer
Abstract : Light scattering in turbid media is essential for such diverse applications as paperand print, computer rendering, optical tomography, astrophysics and remote sensing. This thesis investigates angular variations of light reflected from plane-parallelturbid media using both mathematical models and reflectance measurements, dealswith several applications and proposes novel computational methods for solving thegoverning equations. 4. Multiscale and multilevel methods for porous media flow problems
Abstract : We consider two problems encountered in simulation of fluid flow through porous media. In macroscopic models based on Darcy's law, the permeability field appears as data. The first problem is that the permeability field generally is not entirely known. READ MORE

5. A study of student problems in learning to program
Abstract : Programming is a core subject within Computer Science curricula and many also consider it a particularly difficult subject to learn. There have been many studies and suggestions on what causes these difficulties and what can be done to improve the situation. READ MORE
