1. The interplay of ions in the stimulation of the pancreatic -cell
Abstract : Glucose stimulation of insulin release is mediated by depolarisation of the pancreatic β-cells with accompanying entry of Ca2+ through voltage-dependent channels. An important feature of the glucose-induced depolarisation is its rhythmicity causing oscillations of the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), which trigger pulsatile release of insulin. 3. The Role of Suppliers and Resellers : Cases of Timber Product Distribution Channels
Abstract : This dissertation aims to explain the impacts of distribution channel developments on the roles of timber product distribution channel actors. The role of channel actors in this dissertation is defined as the structured behaviour pattern that combines activities and resources in distribution channels. READ MORE

4. Quantized Feedback for Slow Fading Channels
Abstract : Two topics in fading channels with a strict delay constraint and a resolution-constrained feedback link are treated in this thesis. First, a multi-layer variable-rate single-antenna communication system with quantized feedback, where the expected rate is chosen as the performance measure, is studied under both short-term and long-term power constraints. 5. Modeling of voltage-gated ion channels
Abstract : The recent determination of several crystal structures of voltage-gated ion channels has catalyzed computational efforts of studying these remarkable molecular machines that are able to conduct ions across biological membranes at extremely high rates without compromising the ion selectivity. Starting from the open crystal structures, we have studied the gating mechanism of these channels by molecular modeling techniques. READ MORE
