1. Cytochrome P450 2E1 - relevance for central dopamine neurotransmission and Parkinson's disease
Abstract : Introduction: The enzyme cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) has been found in dopamine (DA) containing brain regions that are of relevance for Parkinson?s disease (PD), and is known to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), toxic molecules that have been implicated in the degeneration of DA neurones. In addition, previous investigations have indicated that inhibition of CYP2E1 increases extracellular DA in the substantia nigra, a nucleus which degenerates in PD. READ MORE

2. Genetic polymorphism and regulation of cytochrome P450 2E1
Abstract : Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) participates in the metabolism of several xenobiotics. A physiological role of CYP2E1 is its ability to convert acetone into gluconeogenetic precursors. Due to a pronounced oxidase activity CYP2E1 can generate substantial amount of oxygen free radicals and may contribute to oxidative stress. READ MORE

3. Molecular basis and structural determinants for the cellular localization of cytochrome P450 2E1
Abstract : Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) is the alcohol inducible member of the P450 family and has a role in gluconeogenesis under fasting conditions. However, CYP2E1 is mainly of toxicological significance and metabolizes xenobiotics to their carcinogenic and toxic metabolites and generates active oxygen species that can cause lipid peroxidation and apoptosis, processes observed in alcoholic liver disease (ALD). 4. Regulation of cytochrome P450 2E1 by hyperoxia and inflammatory factors, with special reference to the central nervous system
Abstract : Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) is a mammalian member of the large P450 gene superfamily. CYP2E1 is active in the metabolism of many small hydrophobic substrates, including general anesthetics, muscle relaxants, precarcinogens, and organic solvents. READ MORE

5. Uptake, disposition and acute effects of inhaled organic solvents : sex differences and influence of cytochrome P450 2E1 in human volunteers
Abstract : The main aim of the present thesis was to study the influence of sex, cytochrome P450 2E1 and chlorzoxazone on the uptake and metabolism of solvents in humans. Sex differences in acute effects of organic solvents were also assessed. READ MORE
