  1. 1. Everyday mining : Exploring sequences in event-based data

    Author : Katerina Vrotsou; Matthew Cooper; Anders Ynnerman; Kajsa Ellegård; Andrew S. Harvey; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Event-based data; activity diary data; event-sequences; interactive exploration; sequence identification; visual data mining; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : Event-based data are encountered daily in many disciplines and are used for various purposes. They are collections of ordered sequences of events where each event has a start time and a duration. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mining Mozambique Health Data : The Case of Malaria: From Bayesian Incidence Risk to Incidence Case Predictions

    Author : Orlando P. Zacarias; Henrik Boström; Mats Danielson; Niklas Lavesson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : The health sector in Mozambique is piled with data, holding records of major public health diseases, such as malaria, cholera, etc. The process of scrutinizing such a mass of health data for useful information is challenging but essential for the health authorities and professionals. The readable data can either warn of dangerous side effects of pharmaceutical drugs or improve intervention strategies. READ MORE

  5. 5. Bioinformatics mining for disease causing mutations : using the dog genome as a model for human disease

    Author : Katarina Truvé; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Humans and dogs share many common diseases, and it has been shown that the identification of mutations that cause disease in dogs can help unravel the genetic basis for a similar disease in humans. Mapping of traits and disease in dogs is not a new idea, but the sequencing of the whole dog genome, the creation of a dense SNP maps followed by the development of SNP arrays for high throughput genotyping has led to new facilitated mapping procedures.
