  2. 2. Basic and translational studies of follicular thyroid neoplasia

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Molecular Medicine

    Author : Theodoros Foukakis; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Follicular thyroid cancer; follicular thyroid adenoma; PAX8-PPARgamma; PPARgamma; PTEN; RAS; RASSF1A; NORE1A; TERT; quantitative RT-PCR; microarray; cancer biomarker;

    Abstract : Thyroid tumors occur frequently in the general population and although the majority represents benign follicular adenomas (FTA), thyroid cancer constitutes 1% of all malignancies worldwide. Among the differentiated cancers, three main types are recognized, including the papillary and follicular forms (PTC and FTC) that originate from the follicular thyrocytes, and the medullary carcinoma that arises from the C-cells. Abstract : Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a malignancy derived from lymphoid tissues. In Sweden, non-Hodgkin lymphoma constituted 3% of all cancers recorded in 2003. Follicular and mantle cell lymphoma are the two types of non-Hodgkin lymphomas studied in this thesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regulation of the germinal center response by T follicular helper cells and type I interferons

    University dissertation from Faculty of Medicine, Lund University

    Author : Madelene Dahlgren; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2016]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Germinal Center; T follicular helper cell; type I interferon; dendritic cell; adjuvant; differentiation; IgG;

    Abstract : The protective effect of most currently available vaccines is dependent on high-affinity antibodies and long lived B cell memory, which develop within organized structures of secondary lymphoid organs called germinal centers (GCs). GC formation is supported by T follicular helper (Tfh) cells, a subset of CD4+ T cells that develop in parallel to other effector T cells and specifically localizes to B cell follicles. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular mechanisms of ovarian follicular development and early embryogenesis

    University dissertation from Faculty of Medicine, Lund University

    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ovary; primordial follicles; Embryogenesis; PI3K-mTORC1 signaling;

    Abstract : In the mammalian ovary, the dormant primordial follicles are the source of developing follicles and fertilizable ova for the entire reproductive life. In addition, the duration of fertility of a female is determined by the initial size of her pool of primordial follicles and by the rate of its activation and depletion. READ MORE
