  1. 1. Triptych of quantum matter in one dimension : Playful constructions in theoretical and computational physics

    Author : Axel Gagge; Jonas Larson; Andrew Daley; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bloch oscillations; Peierls; adiabatic; diabatic; ultracold atoms; Bose-Fermi mixtures; phonon; cQED; superradiance; polarons; DMRG; MPS; Kosterlitz-Thouless; Wannier; Bloch; quantum phase transitions; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : In this compilation thesis, three different quantum mechanical systems are presented. All three have in common that they are one-dimensional quantum systems which, each in their own way, can be seen as analogous to other quantum systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Time-resolved detection of temporally correlated, single-charge tunnelling

    Author : Jonas Bylander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Josephson junctions; time-correlated tunnelling; radio-frequency single-electron transistor; current standard; charge solitons; SET oscillations; Coulomb blockade; metrology; SET; tunnel junction array;

    Abstract : We report real-time detection of the single charges that constitute a small electrical current, as they flow through a nano-electronic device. This represents a direct demonstration of charge discreteness in an electrical current. READ MORE

  3. 3. Current measurement by real-time counting of single charges

    Author : Jonas Bylander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; array of tunnel junctions; Coulomb blockade; radio frequency single electron transistor; SET oscillations; time correlated tunnelling; metrology; current standard; SET; charge solitons;

    Abstract : The first real-time observation of time correlated single-electron tunnelling is reported in this thesis. This is a direct detection of charge discreteness in an electrical current.When a current, I, flows through a chain of metallic islands, connected by small tunnel junctions, a lattice of charges is formed due to the Coulomb repulsion. 4. 4. Effective properties of heterogeneous materials with applications in electromagnetics

    Author : Christian Engström; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; homogenization; optics; acoustics; Electromagnetism; structural parameters; anisotropic material; inverse homogenization; Bloch waves; Maxwell s equations; Elektromagnetism; optik; akustik; Inverse bounds;

    Abstract : Composite materials, i.e, mixtures of two or more materials, are commonly used in industry, because they often have outstanding properties in comparison with the original materials. In many cases the inhomogeneities are on a very fine scale, which makes it difficult to perform a full numerical simulation of the material. READ MORE
